The BBC cooking show returned to screens on Tuesday (September 1) for the third and final week of heats. Five new celebrities headed into the kitchen to test their culinary skills. These included Sue Cleaver, Melvin Odoom, Una Healy, Lauren Steadman and Max Fosh. According to Sue, she had watched MasterChef for years and “always fancied giving it a go.” However, just minutes into making her first dish, a date, chickpea and pine nut pilaf with lamb kofta, Sue ended up cutting her finger. She said: “Plaster already, cut myself! That didn’t take long, did it.” A crew member could then be seen putting a plaster on Sue’s finger as she giggled. She said: “I did nearly cut my finger off. It’s only day one!” Talking to judges Giorgio Locatelli and Grace Dent, Sue admitted: “I’m panicking a bit, I’ve cut myself already.” She then went and retrieved the knife and explained: “On my very special knife that my son bought me especially for this.” Giorgio replied: “That’s a Japanese knife, that’s a very sharp one!” Later on, though, it appeared Sue’s injury was holding her back when it came to deboning a fish. A struggling Sue said: “I can’t get them out. My finger is not helping me. There are thousands of them. It’s a nightmare.” Fortunately for Sue, after the first few challenges, she ended up being awarded the MasterChef pin by the judges, meaning she’ll receive a 10-minute advantage in the next challenge, which Giorgio called “much harder”. Talking about Sue, Giorgio said: “She deserved it,” as Grace agreed: “She really did.” Giorgio then replied: “Fair and square.” It comes after judge Giorgio made his debut on the show last month - and fans were charmed by the newcomer, with many posting messages on X giving him the thumbs up. "New format and chef working well," one person posted on the platform, which was formerly Twitter. Another commented: "I'm liking Giorgio and Grace presenting." "Well I have to say I’m liking Giorgio!" said someone else. Another posted: "Loving the duo of Grace and Giorgio on #CelebrityMasterchef such a refreshing presentation these days, will start watching again." Celebrity MasterChef airs on BBC One at 9pm.
