CCIC Launches Aegoli Acoustic Camera for Vacuum Leak Detection
System uses 140 microphones and ultrasonic imaging to detect vacuum leaks in composites manufacturing, improving quality and inspection traceability.
The Yangtze River Delta Carbon Fiber and Composite Material Innovation Center (CCIC, Changzhou, China) introduces the Aegoli acoustic camera, an ultrasonic imaging system developed for vacuum leak detection during composites manufacturing processes including prepreg vacuum bag molding, vacuum infusion, resin transfer molding (RTM) and autoclave curing.
Designed for vacuum system inspection before curing, the camera helps manufacturers identify leakage in vacuum bags, sealing tapes, molds and piping systems, reducing the risk of rework while improving process consistency and inspection traceability.
The Aegoli system in action.
The system combines 140 high-sensitivity microphones with a 13- megapixel optical camera to visualize ultrasonic leak sources. According to CCIC, a lightweight integrated composite housing reduces the instrument weight by more than 30% compared with conventional equipment, making it easier to use during routine plant inspections.
Aegoli supports ultrasonic detection from 2 kHz to 100 kHz with real-time imaging at 25 frames per sec. Users can display acoustic images, visible-light images, frequency spectrum and sound pressure level information simultaneously, while adjustable inspection modes allow target-area selection and background noise filtering for operation in industrial environments.
The camera is designed to locate leaks across a range of composite manufacturing equipment, including vacuum bag films, sealing strips, mold edges, pipelines and valves. A rotatable display (0°, 90°, 180° and 270°) enables inspection in confined spaces such as autoclaves and complex mold geometries.
For inspection documentation, the system supports still-image and video capture with metadata including equipment identification, leak location and inspection distance. Files can be organized through customizable directories and batch management functions to facilitate digital inspection records.
The software also supports left- and right-hand operating layouts and provides real-time monitoring of sound pressure level, peak frequency and device connection status during inspection.
