Police said that, following lengthy investigations based on statements made by the 02 Chinese suspects, the other Chinese suspects were arrested on Aug. 30 while hiding in Sigiriya. Advertisement Acting on a tip-off that the main suspect was hiding in disguise inside Port City, a team of officers, including the OIC of Unit 5 of the CCD – SI Maduka Bhashitha Rasanjana, spent several days searching the area before identifying the suspect and arresting him. Advertisement Sri Lanka’s Excise Commissioner – Sri Lanka Navy Commodore (Retd.) M.B.N.A. Premaratne, says that the deadline for submitting bids for the tender relating to security stickers and a digital marking system for liquor bottles in Sri Lanka was extended until Sep. 22 following a request made by a company to the Procurement Committee. He made this statement in response to an inquiry by  ‘Sri Lanka Mirror ‘ regarding media reports claiming that the deadline for submitting bids had been extended until Sep. 22 in order to allow India-based Madras Security Printers (MSP), which currently holds the contract until January 2027, to have its contract extended for a further year. He said that he could not provide further details on the matter as a procurement process is currently underway. However, he stated that when such a request is submitted to the Procurement Committee, it is necessary for the committee to examine the matter. Advertisement The deadline for submitting bids for the relevant tender was originally scheduled to close on August 31. However, the Excise Department suddenly published a newspaper advertisement extending the deadline by a further 22 days. However, media reports had pointed out that, as a result of the extension, there would not be sufficient time for the successful bidder to implement the system after the tender is awarded. Consequently, it would have to be awarded to India-based Madras Security Printers (MSP), which currently operates the security sticker and digital marking system for liquor bottles. 📌 Related News:  News 2 days ago Sri Lanka, India to sign 3 defense MoUs News 3 days ago Rain above 75mm likely in several areas today News 2 days ago Milinda refutes claims about Limini take the stage in A’pura News 3 days ago Deadline to scrap unauthorised coastal constructions along Bambalapitiya – Dehiwala
