Клуб «Boys & Girls» в Южной Огасте столкнулся с нехваткой мест из-за рекордного спроса

South Augusta Boys & Girls Club faces increased need AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - The Boys & Girls Club in South Augusta is seeing an increased need for their services. Programs cited as vital for community Chante Luckie said programs like the Boys & Girls Clubs are vital, not just to fill gaps for working parents but to show kids what’s possible. “Sometimes the community itself has this thought process of, you’re from South Augusta, so you’re not going to go to college or you’re not going to be able to get this job. And we want to change the mindset of those kids,” Luckie said. Luckie also addressed the stigma associated with the area. “Sometimes, the stigma is you’re not going to make it far,” Luckie said. Luckie was born and raised in the South Augusta and has seen the need for services firsthand. Capacity limits impact reach The J. Hebbard Club in South Augusta has 250 spots and is currently at full capacity with a waiting list. Vice President of Operations Martez Favis said the number of kids the organization serves is not enough to meet demand. “When we think about the number of kids we serve, that’s great, but the number that need our services is even greater. There are about 30,000 school-aged kids in the Richmond County area. And currently throughout our entire organization, we’re serving 1,183,” Favis said. Staff cite personal experience Even though they can’t reach everyone, Luckie said she is committed to changing the lives of every kid who walks through the doors of the club because someone did it for her. “I am proof that someone mentored me. I was a Boys & Girls Club kid. So just having those people in my life that kind of shaped my future. I think that’s what I want to pour back into our community,” Luckie said.
