Bodhi Tree Multimedia Ltd has opened FY27 on a strong operational footing, reporting a sharp rise in revenue and EBITDA in the first quarter as the content company accelerates its shift from commissioned production towards an IP-led, multi-platform business model.
For the quarter ended June 30, 2026, consolidated total income rose 71.54% year-on-year to ₹31.58 crore, compared with ₹18.41 crore in Q1 FY26. EBITDA more than doubled, rising 160.6% to ₹4.07 crore from ₹1.56 crore, while EBITDA margin expanded by 440 basis points to 12.88%, from 8.48% a year earlier.
Profit after tax (PAT) increased 64.84% to ₹0.78 crore, against ₹0.47 crore in Q1 FY26. However, PAT margin remained broadly flat at 2.48%, compared with 2.58% in the corresponding quarter.
The company attributed the margin pressure at the PAT level to a temporary cost-revenue timing mismatch, with investments and production costs for several shows being recognised ahead of the corresponding revenue. Bodhi Tree expects this gap to normalise as these titles approach completion and revenue recognition.
The Q1 performance comes against the backdrop of Bodhi Tree's broader strategic transition from a largely commissioned production business to a content ecosystem built around IP ownership, multi-platform monetisation and scalable franchises.
The company, which has produced more than 5,000 hours of programming across 100-plus shows, produced over 50 hours of original content across television, OTT and digital platforms during the quarter.
It currently has five key titles at various stages of production for leading broadcasters and platforms. The company said its diversified pipeline across television and OTT, along with continued investments in original content development and technology-enabled creative workflows, will remain central to its FY27 growth strategy.
The financial performance also indicates early operating leverage from this expanding scale. While total income grew 72%, EBITDA increased at more than twice that rate, pushing the operating margin higher by 440 bps.
The more muted PAT growth, however, highlights the different economics of an IP-led content business, where upfront development and production investments can precede monetisation.
The strategic pivot is significant for Bodhi Tree's longer-term positioning.
Rather than relying primarily on commissioned production revenues, the company is looking to build and own content assets that can generate value across their lifecycle and travel across television, OTT, digital, FAST and potentially international markets.
This model brings greater potential for recurring and multi-platform monetisation, but also introduces longer investment and monetisation cycles.
Mautik Tolia, Managing Director & CEO, Bodhi Tree Multimedia, said the company remained focused on “disciplined, IP-led content creation” and developing stories designed to travel across formats, platforms and markets.
“As we pivot from traditional content services to owning and building IP, we remain mindful that monetisation cycles are longer and require sustained investment, but this approach lets us participate across the full content lifecycle and build assets that compound in value over time,” Tolia said.
The company's emphasis on IP comes as India's entertainment ecosystem continues to fragment across OTT, connected TV, digital video and emerging FAST platforms, creating more distribution avenues for content but also intensifying competition for attention and monetisation.
Bodhi Tree is also looking beyond conventional entertainment production, with two government-led digital ecosystem mandates emerging as important strategic developments.
The company has secured a mandate from the Government of Assam to develop and manage the state's official digital content platform. The engagement expands Bodhi Tree's role from content creation into platform management and potentially recurring digital revenue streams.
It has also signed an MoU with the Government of Tripura to build the state's digital media, creator economy and technology infrastructure. The initiative is aimed at positioning Tripura as an emerging AVGC (Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming and Comics) content hub.
Together, the mandates point to a broader opportunity for content companies to participate in the development of state-level digital ecosystems, rather than operating purely as production vendors.
They also give Bodhi Tree an opportunity to leverage its content, technology and platform capabilities across a wider set of use cases.
Technology and AI are becoming another layer of the company's transformation.
Bodhi Tree said its technology investments and AI-led initiatives are helping improve decision-making and accelerate the process of identifying and developing stories it believes can be scaled into owned IP.
For the company, the opportunity appears to be less about using AI simply to reduce production costs and more about embedding technology into the content-development and decision-making process.
Tolia said AI-led initiatives are “sharpening our decision-making and helping us move faster on the stories we choose to build and own.”
That approach aligns with a broader shift in the media and entertainment industry, where AI is increasingly being deployed across content development, production workflows, localisation, personalisation and distribution.
A larger digital opportunity, but a more competitive market
Bodhi Tree's growth strategy is being supported by the continuing expansion of India's digital media economy.
India's digital advertising market is projected to reach US$14.6 billion in 2026, while the country's overall media and entertainment market is expected to grow from around US$32 billion in 2025 to approximately US$38 billion by 2028.
OTT remains a major growth engine, with the segment projected to reach around US$24 billion by 2030. India recorded more than 975 million OTT viewers and 216 million paid subscribers in 2025, while connected-TV households are projected to reach 191 million by 2028.
For content companies, the expansion creates a larger addressable market but also changes the economics of content creation. With platforms demanding differentiated programming and audiences becoming increasingly fragmented, ownership of distinctive IP can potentially provide greater monetisation flexibility than one-time commissioned projects.
Bodhi Tree is therefore positioning its content pipeline around this shift, with an emphasis on regional stories, original IP and formats that can be distributed across multiple platforms.
FY27 focus shifts from building to monetisation
The company's Q1 numbers suggest that FY27 could represent a transition from capability-building towards monetisation and execution.
“FY26 was about building, consolidating our acquisitions and strengthening our platform; FY27 is about consolidating revenue and driving execution,” Tolia said.
The immediate challenge will be to convert the company's expanding content pipeline and strategic investments into sustained revenue and profitability while managing the longer monetisation cycles inherent in IP ownership.
With income growth already translating into stronger EBITDA expansion, the key metric to watch through FY27 will be whether this operating leverage can be sustained as the company's owned-IP portfolio scales and government-led digital mandates begin contributing to the business.
