Город Блэк-Рок обновит систему штормовых сирен на 40 тысяч долларов

Black Rock to install new storm sirens BLACK ROCK, Ark. (KAIT) - The city of Black Rock is moving forward with a $40,000 storm siren upgrade following multiple severe weather events over the past year, including an EF-3 tornado and straight-line winds that caused widespread damage. The state is covering $30,000 of the total project cost. City administrator Darlene Schmidt said the community has already donated roughly $4,000 toward the remaining balance, with the city responsible for covering the rest. Schmidt said previous sirens have not been consistent in their activation, making the upgrade necessary. “After the July 11th storm that came through and then last year’s March 13th storm, it’s very obvious that a storm siren signal is just very needed here in the city,” Schmidt said. In July, straight-line winds snapped trees, exposed power lines and tore the roof off a mobile home. The storms also caused damage to city hall. Schmidt said the goal of the new siren system is to give residents enough warning to seek shelter. “You’d be awakened in time to hopefully get to your basement or to a neighbor’s basement,” Schmidt said. “That’s all we want is everybody to be safe.” The city announced on Facebook that construction will begin as soon as possible.
