В новом районе Уайтхорса откроется первый ресторан и бар

1st restaurant and bar in Whitehorse's Whistle Bend neighbourhood to open next month Whistle Bend is Whitehorse's newest and fastest-growing residential subdivision A new business is set to open in Whitehorse's newest and fastest-growing subdivision, and some Whistle Bend residents say it's welcome news. Bend Bar and Offsales on Keno Way will be the first bar and restaurant in Whistle Bend. It's set to open by mid-September, according to Sukhan Brar who co-owns the business with her husband, Harjot Brar, and his friend, Kuljeet Brar, of no relation. An additional seven to eight front-of-house staff, bartenders and chefs will round out the team. “We want it to be warm, welcoming and relaxed,” Sukhan said. “We want it to be a neighbourhood bar. We don’t think of it like a family-owned business — it’s just a community.” The bar will be able to seat about 39 people at a time and will offer an off-sales component for alcohol, Sukhan said. The restaurant will also serve pub-style food such as chicken wings, fries, onion rings and pizza, with some added Indian-inspired flavours. On weekends, Sukhan hopes to offer live music performances. “We wanted to build something of our own in a place where we live,” she said, adding that work is still underway for licensing, inspections and hiring. ‘Any expansion is good expansion’ Whistle Bend's population is larger than Watson Lake and Dawson City, Yukon, combined, and it's still growing. According to the Yukon Bureau of Statistics, the subdivision housed 4,733 people as of March 2026. At the same time last year, the neighbourhood was home to 4,322 residents. Currently, the closest restaurants and local stores for Whistle Bend residents are in the nearby Porter Creek neighbourhood. Last year, some Whistle Bend residents called on the territorial government to expand the subdivision’s transportation infrastructure and community facilities. Richard Pearce has lived in Whistle Bend for about one year. He said he'd prefer to see a small convenience or grocery store open in the neighbourhood before a restaurant, but said "any expansion is good expansion.” He said that Bend Bar sounds similar to the popular Whiskey Jacks Pub and Grill in Porter Creek. “I think it would probably do very well,” he said. Marc-André Gelinas has lived in Whistle Bend for almost two years, and he heard about a restaurant coming to his neighbourhood through permit consultations. “Any type of service that we get in the neighbourhood that may allow us to not have to drive or commute downtown to grab anything is welcome,” he said.
