В парке Бэнда демонтировали любимую лодку Happy Harmon из-за коррозии и нарушения норм безопасности

Beloved boat removed from Bend park Published 10:23 am Friday, September 4, 2026 The Bend Park & Recreation District removed the well-loved PS Happy Harmon boat from Harmon Park after it became unsafe due to rust, exposed metal that gets very hot and chipped paint. The boat, which was repurposed from a lifeboat in 1974, was recently fenced off for evaluation by park district staff. After researching several options, staff made the decision to remove the boat. Other play structures will remain available at Harmon Park. Park district employee Ken Lehto converted the lifeboat into the play structure. “The old boat at Harmon is beloved by community members and our staff, so we know this is disappointing,” said Michelle Healy, BPRD executive director. “The boat was repurposed from the start and was showing its age and years of use, which doesn’t meet standards for modern playgrounds.” The boat was named by 10-year-old Tim Carpenter after winning a naming contest, according to the park district. Tammy Baney, a lifelong Bend resident, said the community has fond memories of the boat and wants to save it, either to repurpose it or put a piece of it on display at Harmon Park. She’s asked the park district to let community members help by lending time, labor or money to salvage the boat. “We rally well, and this has pulled the community together,” she told The Bulletin Friday. “It’s to let something unite us during a time when a lot of people feel divided.” Harmon Park had approximately 40,000 visits last year according to park district data. The park district regularly evaluates all play structures at the park district’s 47 playgrounds.
