Sumerian Records announced four limited-edition vinyl variants of Bad Omens' self-titled debut album to mark its 10th anniversary. Each pressing features new cover art and a different vinyl color. The original album arrived on Aug. 19, 2016.
Pre-orders for the anniversary editions launched this week through Sumerian Records' official website, with shipping scheduled for Sept. 18.
Noah Sebastian founded the band after departing Immoralist, according to Chaos Zine, a Washington, D.C.-based group where he played guitar. Sebastian began crafting lyrics in secret during 2013 while performing with his previous band, keeping his creative ambitions hidden from his bandmates.
Sebastian contacted Nicholas Ruffilo, an old friend, in 2015. Vincent Riquier came aboard next and introduced Sebastian to Joakim "Jolly" Karlsson, a friend from Sweden. Karlsson and Riquier had toured together on one of Riquier's earlier projects.
Nick Folio joined as drummer after submitting an online version of a demo the group distributed. Members left homes in Richmond and Sweden to chase this project.
The band recorded their first album with producer Will Putney at Graphic Nature Audio in Belleville, New Jersey. Putney has worked with Upon a Burning Body, Fit for an Autopsy, and Body Count, establishing himself as a go-to producer in the scene. The group rehearsed for months in Folio's basement before entering the studio.
A nameless demo EP caught Sumerian Records' attention. The EP featured unfinished versions of songs that would later appear on the debut album. The label suggested expanding most of the music into a full-length record.
The band signed in December 2015. A music video for "Glass Houses" appeared on the Sumerian YouTube channel. The single generated buzz.
"Glass Houses" was originally titled "Bad Omens" before becoming one of the group's early tracks. The song title change led to the name becoming the band's identity instead.
