The two stocks, like Ryman Healthcare, had sharp rises after their weightings were increased in the index but then lost much of their gains straightaway.
Auckland Airport declined 28c or 3.16% to $8.57 on trade worth $17.9m; Meridian was down 9c to $5.44; and Ryman decreased 7c or 3.33% to $2.03.
Robertshawe said the passive investment funds needed to buy at “inelastic prices” in rebalancing their portfolios, and others took it as an opportunity to sell their shares.
Offshore, the resumption of attacks in the Middle East and a rise in oil prices unsettled Wall Street. The Dow Jones Industrial Average declined 0.7% to 53,185.9 points; S&P 500 decreased 0.33% to 7686.14; and Nasdaq Composite was down 0.12% to 26,370.89.

The Dow Jones has gained more than 1% for its fifth consecutive monthly advance, and its 15th positive month in the past 16. The S&P 500 and Nasdaq recorded their first one-month increases since May, up 2.6% and 3.9% respectively.

At home, the market expects the RBNZ to increase the Official Cash Rate (OCR) by 25 basis points this week to 2.75%, and to reach a peak of 3.5% this time next year.
Robertshawe said 3.5% looked a bit high. “If you look at the strength of the companies and the way they are talking, they are not operating in a strong demand environment – no one is in growth mode; they are just trying to survive.
“Hopefully the OCR will be stuck not much above 3%. The economic recovery is still at a very early stage, and I don’t see the point of crushing it before it starts. It doesn’t feel great, but then inflation has been high for a long time now,” he said.
Sky TV was up 9c or 2.47% to $3.74, and has risen from $3.36 since it announced an increased dividend in its result on Friday. It is also forecasting 10% annual dividend growth.
Robertshawe said investors had been absorbing Sky TV’s result. “The management is doing the rounds (with analysts) and telling their story and outlining the dividend is sustainable.”
