В Оксфорде с 30 сентября по 3 октября пройдет премьера знаменитой пьесы Августа Уилсона «Заборы»

04:47PM, Thursday 13 August 2026 Ray Fearon AUGUST Wilson’s Pulitzer prize-winning play, Fences, is coming to Oxford Playhouse next month. Directed by Daniel Bailey, it is the sixth in Wilson’s series of 10 plays called the Pittsburgh Cycle (or the American Century Cycle), which chronicled the experiences of African-American people in the 20th century, from the 1900s to the Seventies. Set in the Fifties, the story follows 53-year-old Troy, a talented former baseball player who could have gone professional. Rubbish collector by day, storyteller by night, he is battle-scarred and weary. His wife, Rose, is optimistic for the future and for the dreams of their son, Cory. However, traumatised by his past, the stubborn Troy’s behaviour threatens to drive the family apart. Filled with blues and jazz music and a rollercoaster of emotions, Fences is a moving portrayal of grief, love and life in post-war Black America. Troy will be played by Ray Fearon (Fleabag, Coronation Street, the Royal Shakespeare Company’s Othello), with Rose played by Madeline Appiah. Cory is played by Josh Tedeku, Lyons by Michael Ahomka-Lindsay, Gabriel by Simon-Anthony Rhoden and Bono by Everal A Walsh. A Headlong, Leeds Playhouse, Lyric Hammersmith Theatre and HOME Manchester production, the play is supported by Charles Holloway OBE. August Wilson’s Fences is at Oxford Playhouse from Wednesday, September 30 to Saturday, October 3 and is suitable for ages 12 and over.
