В Утике пройдет семинар по генеалогии, посвященный путям переселенцев XIX века

UTICA — The public is invited to a genealogy workshop led by professional genealogist Pamela Vittorio at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, at the Oneida County History Center, 1608 Genesee St. “Before, During & After: Transatlantic Travel and Your Ancestors’ Routes in the 19th Century” will focus on research strategies for tracing how ancestors traveled from their home countries to destinations in the United States. Participants will examine transatlantic travel after the Steerage Act of 1819, including how immigrants arranged passage, reached departure ports and traveled aboard merchant ships. The program will also cover transportation used after immigrants arrived in the United States. Vittorio will discuss how wagons, canal boats and trains helped travelers reach their destinations and how transportation methods changed between 1817 and the early 1900s. Admission is $15, $10 for Oneida County History Center members. Advance registration is recommended. Participants can register at https://forms.gle/Jyzcos3WutUfC1qs6.
