Писатель Кристофер Бюльман представит новый роман на фестивале в Огайо

Christopher Buehlman, Ohio resident and author of hit books such as “Between Two Fires” and “The Blacktongue Thief,” will be making an appearing at this year’s Ohio Renaissance Festival in Waynesville. On Sunday, Oct. 11, Buehlman will at the fair, meeting guests and signing copies of his upcoming book “The Thrice-Bound Fool.” Not originally from Ohio, Buehlman was born and raised in Florida, graduating from Florida State University in 1994 with a major in French and a minor in history. “I wasn’t a creative writing major or anything,” said Buehlman. “But I’ve always known that writing was something I wanted to do. I had poetry published, I’ve had plays put on, but I think the endgame for me was always novels.” After college, Buehlman spent much of his adult life traveling the country, performing at various renaissance festivals as “Christophe the Insultor, Verbal Mercenary.” It was during this time where he first traveled to the Dayton area. “I got to know the Ohio Renaissance Festival way back 1994, when I first signed on to be a wandering insulter in the streets, “ said Buehlman. “And I really kind of fell in love with the area. I got to know Yellow Springs, and it became an important part of the world for me.” While writing, Buehlman often pulls from his love of history, as well as his time working in the renaissance festival circuit. “It was useful to me, for example, while writing the novel ‘Between Two Fires,’ which takes place during the Hundred Years’ War, to have handled a longbow,” said Buehlman. “This was not something I learned for any sort of act or anything I did, it was just, you know, I was in places where people sold longbows and I like history, and I decided to pick one up and see what it felt like to shoot it.” Buehlman also takes inspiration from his childhood interest in Dungeons and Dragons, despite not playing since he was a child. Buehlman’s next book, “The Thrice-Bound Fool” is set to release in October as a sequel to the 2021 USA Today bestseller “The Blacktongue Thief.” Set in a medieval world controlled by the malicious Takers Guild, this series tells the story of thief on the run Kinch Na Shannack and his unlikely partnership with Galva, war veteran and handmaiden of the goddess of death. “‘The Blacktongue Thief’ takes place in a fantasy dystopian world with medieval tech, and it’s dystopian because it has been ravaged by a series of goblin wars that were so destructive and lethal, they were sort of analogous to World War I,” said Buehlman. “And perhaps even worse, because goblins eat people.” While this is the official follow-up to “The Blacktongue Thief,” continuing the duo’s story, Buehlman also released a prequel novel focusing on Galva in 2024 known as “The Daughters’ War.”
