Эксперт по транспорту представил книгу о поиске уникального таланта и предназначения

Inviting everyone to meet in the middle of their interests and talents, former Queen Anne's County commissioner and transportation coordinator Paul Comfort launched his latest book "Find Your X Factor" at Cult Classic Brewing earlier this month. “The book is about finding where your abilities and your interests intersect,” Comfort said Aug. 11. Comfort of Kent Island, was inspired to write the book when he realized the disconnect throughout his career between so many people not doing what they love and not knowing how to achieve it. Serving as a guide for introspection and analysis to find purpose in all aspects of your life, “Find Your X Factor" is aimed and applicable at all different phases of life, including young people seeking purpose, those in mid-career who don't enjoy what they are good at, and those seeking meaning in retirement after a successful career. The advice given to youngsters to "follow your dreams" can only get you so far, according to Comfort. “You can have all the buzz about what you want to do, but if you don't have the skill set and the abilities, you're probably going to fall flat on your face,” he said. Too often people wait around for their opportunities to come to them instead of working toward achievable goals and mindsets, he said. “There is no such thing as luck,” Comfort said, “luck is being prepared when opportunity strikes.” Folks can also be typecasted into a role they might be good at but are no longer interested in, according to Comfort. “You don't want to climb the ladder of success your whole life only to find out at the end you've been leaning against the wrong wall," he said. Showcasing the different avenues your X Factor can take you, Comfort welcomed fellow industry leaders to share their experiences in finding their own X Factor. Local 12-time national champion, nine-time American Power Boat Association record holder, builder of hundreds of boats and author of the recently published biography “Legacy,” Larry Lauterbach of Chester always knew he wanted to follow his father’s footsteps to build and race boats. Faced with divorced parents and either leaving to live with his mother or staying with his father at his boatbuilding shop, “I knew at six years old what I wanted to do and not what somebody else wanted me to do, and I stood my ground,” he said. "Finding your X Factor" means forging your own true path, and being true to yourself, said Kansas City Area Transportation Authority CEO Frank White III, even if it is different from your parents. Son of Major League Baseball legend Frank White Jr., of the Kansas City Royals 1985 World Series, White said growing up watching the greatest baseball players in the world come up to bat time and time again after strikeouts taught him “how to manage failure.” “It's about doing the hard things everyday. Push yourself harder in the practices and the training, so the game becomes easy,” he said. Although he never played baseball himself, White applied the lessons he learned from the players to be a “World Series Champion” in his own career. White practices “radical pragmatism,” which he highlighted as “letting the best idea win” and checking your ego at the door for the continual good of the team. Breadcrumbs of your childhood interests and passions can pinpoint your X Factor today, said co-host of the Gene and Julie Show Julie Gates, of Phoenix AZ. Growing up with a family that crisscrossed the globe, Gates learned from an early age the intricate connections shared by people even throughout different cultures and identities “We are all really the same, even if we look a little different,” she said. Gates followed her X Factor to unite and build community bridges through storytelling and radio broadcasting through the Gene and Julie Show. “What we’re all trying to do is help all of us find the apex of what we want to do in our lives,’ she said. “The only thing you can control is right now,” Comfort said, and “(Find Your X Factor) is a book, but it is also a theory,” that highlights deep self-analysis of identifying what you are good at, what you enjoy doing and where to apply it. A leader in transit, Comfort is the author of seven books, including a children's book on public transportation around the world. He is also the host of Transit Unplugged on YouTube and podcast.
