В Хантсвилле проходит конкурс Food Truck Wars: еда на пользу жилью и доступной мобильности

From Sept. 1 to 30, Community Living Huntsville is hosting Food Truck Wars, a friendly competition between nine local food truck vendors to support the organization’s housing and accessibility initiatives. “We have so many amazing food trucks in our area that we wanted a chance to showcase everybody who wanted to be involved,” said Laura Flynn, community engagement associate at Community Living. “There’s nothing better than teamwork in a community.” Lined across Lake of Bays, Port Sydney and Emsdale, each food truck will donate a portion of proceeds from month-long sales of a special dish created for the event. Featured dishes include wontons, burgers, crepes, tacos, smashed potatoes, and poutine. Vendors are also competing for the title of Food Truck Wars Champion and the prize of a Food Truck Wars trophy. The more customers purchase a food truck’s featured dish, the more that truck will climb the leaderboard toward the champion title. Competitors for the Food Truck Wars trophy include Bangkok Thai, BBQ Kings, Din’s Fresh Cut Fries, Frenchie’s Bakery Creperie, Taco Stop, On the scene, Tristan’s Tasty Eatz, Muskoka Street Eats, and the Banger. Community Living has created a map ahead of the event’s start date so folks can locate the different food trucks across the region. Community members can also check out a list of the vendors here. “It’s a great way to build connection with our local food trucks and the people in our community,” said Flynn, emphasizing the event’s slogan; Eat Local, Give Local. Proceeds from Food Truck Wars contribute to Community Living’s housing and accessibility initiatives. Community Living has started undergoing renovations at 18 Main St., aiming to create a four-bedroom apartment, with one fully accessible bedroom, an emergency response bedroom, a shared kitchen, and a small office space. The organization is looking to raise $500,000 to complete the renovations. You can donate to the cause here. Alongside its housing initiatives, Community Living currently provides accessible transportation to 15 community members with five wheelchair accessible vehicles. With the support from the Food Truck Wars, the organization is aiming to raise $130,000 to support the cost of purchasing a sixth accessible vehicle, and necessary safety upgrades such as ramps, lifts, and licensing. You can donate to the vehicle fund here. Folks are also invited to participate in a bingo game. Participants can complete their bingo cards by ordering from specific trucks, meeting truck owners, and other fun tasks. Those with completed bingo cards can enter to win a Community Living Huntsville Prize Pack valued at more than $50. One entry allowed per person. Error!
