Воспитанник пожарного депо: мальчик, рожденный в машине скорой помощи, снова сел в пожарный грузовик

Grady Moyer Doesn’t Remember the first time he met firefighter Travis Trevethick. The two were reunited when 10-year-old Grady was treated to transportation to his Clear Creek School in a NevCo Consolidated fire truck, accompanied by Captain Travis. But Grady didn’t remember Travis because Grady was literally only seconds old when Travis and other paramedics helped deliver the infant. “It was scary,” recalls Travis, who responded to the 911 call 10 years ago. “I was present when my daughter was born, and I cut the umbilical cord on my younger brother when I was just seven years old. But nothing prepares you for delivering a baby.” Grady’s mother, Krystal, says she never intended to have a home birth but baby Grady came too quickly. “I didn’t know if we were expecting a girl or a boy,” recalls Krystal. “So when Travis said, ‘He’s OK.’ I asked, ‘Is it a boy?’” Before hopping aboard the fire truck, Grady and Travis didn’t discuss how Grady came into the world; they were too busy talking shop. “It was fun,” Grady says. “We were looking around the station, seeing how they put on gear, the equipment, hoses, axes, and water pressure depending on how big a fire is…” An Aerial Equine Extraction. At last month’s Tevis Cup 100-mile, one-day endurance ride from Lake Tahoe to Auburn, members of the NevCo Sheriff’s Office Humane Emergency Animal Rescue Team (HEART) were busy performing rescues as well as assisting at veterinary checkpoints. “It was a long, hot grueling day but our presence really made a difference in some horses’ lives,” says HEART Founder Stefanie Geckler. “One call involved taking our side-by-side into the forest to help a horse with a serious laceration. Another incident involved using a helicopter to fly a horse to safety.” The 11 HEART members worked a total of 240 hours, and nine of them pulled 23 hour shifts… It Was July 4, 1996 when a man and a woman ran — literally streaked — down Broad St. during the patriotic parade in NevCity. Was it their bare ambition to denude the flamboyant parade? Did they want to reveal their excitement for our nation’s birthday in their birthday suits? Would the audience be able to “bare” it all? Yes, it’s the naked truth that spectators cheered wildly… Can Concrete Float? Emerald Cove Marina at Bullards Bar Reservoir is finished with a three-year construction revamp that’s a modern marvel on water. The facility features state-of-the-art heavy-duty concrete docks that were manufactured in Oklahoma and transported to the reservoir via a massive convoy of trucks. Functioning essentially as a solid floating island, the marina is secured by an intricate system of winch-controlled steel cables. The entire layout is continuously reconfigured to adjust seamlessly to the reservoir’s ever-changing water levels ( www.BullardsBar.com ). Operation of the marina has been a family affair for two decades: Scott and Debra Robertson, their son Daniel, and Scott’s brother and sister-in-law who live in SoCal. Scott is CEO, Debra manages the marina store and festive community events, and General Manager Daniel envisions and enacts projects such as the custom-built barge that houses a floating food trailer concession now moored at the marina. Rentals range from standard jet skis, ski boats, patio boats, and luxury 60x15-foot houseboats with extravagant amenities such as hot tubs, water slides, and wet bars… A Special Advance Screening of the award-winning “According to Kate” will be presented at Friar Tucks in NevCity before the film makes its official premiere in Tombstone, AZ ( https://ticketspotapp.com/e/nz456 ). Adapted from New York Times bestselling author, historian, and screenwriter Chris Enss’ 2019 novel, the 41-minute short approaches the familiar legends of Doc Holliday and the OK Corral from his girlfriend Kate’s point of view. Set in 1899, the story follows reporter Lucy Evans, played by NevCo local Chris, as she seeks out Kate hoping to hear the truth about her life with Holliday. “I wrote the book and the screenplay for the film as well as appear in the short,” says Chris. “I play the reporter Hearst sends to interview Big Nose Kate.” Chris will be there to greet guests and answer questions when the short film is presented Sept. 8 at Friar Tucks. Seating opens at 5:30, the program begins at 6PM and the $35 admission includes light appetizers… Excellence, Endurance and 80 Years. InConcert Sierra began the celebration of its 80th anniversary season by honoring generous donors at a “Party on the Pond” at the lovely property of Joan and Lance Goddard. Board members contributed homemade desserts following a delicious salad buffet by Emily's Catering. Guests were entertained by the wonderful jazz trio, Double Cook Combo, comprised of three talented current and former NUHS musicians. A proclamation presented at a meeting of the GV City Council honored InConcert Sierra's eight decades of world class music. In its inimitable style, members of InConcert's board and its Sierra Master Chorale staged a "flash mob" at the council meeting, singing a personalized, tuneful ditty to highlight InConcert's musical history… The NevCo Fairgrounds rolled out a new app this year that provides entertainment schedules, vendors, a map, FAQs, and more. CEO Andrew Trygg says, “We heard a lot of really positive feedback about the app’s functionality. It was great for everything from building and saving your daily schedule to keeping your electronic tickets in one place…” The Fairgrounds Foundation — the fair’s nonprofit fundraising organization — sold beer and wine to raise money for the fairgrounds, and tips funded scholarships for high school graduates. Robin Hauck says, “The three scholarships are open to all past fair ag exhibitors and range from $1,500 to $3,000.” Foundation VP Joe Lester says signs near the foundation’s tip jars were intended to be amusing: “Tips — Bad for Cows, Good for Us..!” “Afraid of Change? Leave it Here…” “Drink Responsibly, Tip Generously…” and “On a Scale of $1 – $10, How Attractive Are You…? Three Veteran Fair Board Members weigh in. Arnie Romanello has been on the fair board since 2001 and says he’s proud of CEO Andrew Trygg, “…who is well-organized and doing an outstanding job.” Tom Browning, fair board member since 2006, says he’s most impressed with youth ag students. “What these students are doing with the ag mechanics projects are amazing,” Tom says. “This community has continued to support these students beyond belief with over a million dollars at the auction.” Jeanette Royal, appointed to the board in 1993, remembers when then-CEO Ed Scofield purchased two new computers for the office. “Prior to that,’ recalls Jeanette, “directors actively participated inputting by hand fair entries and camping reservations.” She says she’s proud the NevCo Fairgrounds has become “the successful heart of the community…” Terry McAteer tried to limit the number of guests to a manageable 75 at each his free tunnel tours, but to no avail. Terry offered to guide people through three of the 16 tunnels Chinese workers blasted for the Transcontinental Railroad and also show folks the 1849 covered wagon gold field route, Lincoln Highway, and Chinese Wall constructed with no mortar. Up to 150 eager guests signed up for each of the first three tours! “Demand was so high that I opened up three more tours which immediately filled up with another 150 each. Most of the attendees are Nevada County folks, and the demand continues,” reports Terry. “I will offer more tours starting next June. I was blown away but I guess ‘free’ in these inflationary times is a draw..." For Anyone Who Doesn’t recognize a McNab Cypress, there’s help. An educational sign about the rare, native trees has been installed near one of the McNab Cypresses growing in front of the Diagnostic Center at Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital. “In 1855, Scottish botanists studying in California named the species for botanist William Ramsay McNab at the Royal Garden and Herbarium in Edinburgh, Scotland,” says Star Carroll, Vice President of the Redbud Chapter of the CA Native Plant Society. “In parts of its range, the tree is a host for the rare California butterfly Muir’s Hairstreak, named for John Muir, also a Scot.” There are a number of McNabs growing on hospital property, possibly an extension of a larger stand that runs from Sutton Way along Dorsey Drive… “To Succeed in Life, you need three things: a wishbone, a backbone, and a funny bone.” – Reba McEntire (1955 - ), American country singer, actress, and entrepreneur… Share Your Life Successes at [email protected]...
