Open Forum: Winchester needs Davis on City Council

One of the things I admire most about Miles Davis is his belief that Winchester should be a community where everyone feels welcome and valued. Some families have called Winchester home for generations. Others arrived a few years ago, a few months ago, or perhaps just last week. Miles understands that no matter when you arrived — or where you came from — you are part of what makes Winchester special. Our history and traditions matter. They help tell the story of who we are. But our community isn’t defined only by where we’ve been. It is also shaped by the people who choose Winchester today — the families raising their children here, the entrepreneurs opening small businesses, the teachers educating our students, the neighbors volunteering their time, and the residents bringing new ideas and experiences to our city. If you weren’t born and raised in Winchester, that doesn’t make you any less important to our community. In many ways, newcomers add new threads to the fabric that binds this beautiful city together. Every new thread makes that fabric richer, stronger, and more representative of the Winchester we are becoming. Miles believes leadership should bring people together, not divide them into those who are “from here” and those who aren’t. Good ideas don’t require a Winchester birth certificate. Neither does caring about our neighborhoods, supporting our schools, protecting our quality of life, or wanting a better future for our city. We should honor the people who built Winchester while opening our arms to the people who will help build its future. That is the kind of Winchester Miles believes in: a city where you don’t have to prove how long you’ve lived here to have a voice. A city where neighbors listen to one another, learn from one another, and work together. Whether Winchester has been your home for generations or you just unpacked your boxes, you belong here. You matter here. And your voice deserves to be heard. That spirit of welcome and belonging is one more reason why I believe we need Miles Davis on Winchester City Council. That’s why we need Miles. Dr. Miles Davis for Winchester City Council — Ward 1. Lyn Bacha is a resident of Winchester.
