St. Croix Automotive, an auto repair company based primarily in New Richmond, held a groundbreaking on Sept. 1 for a new location in Hudson set to open in spring 2027.  The company’s original brick-and-mortar resides in New Richmond, with another in Somerset, Wis. St. Croix Automotive will start its first shop in Minnesota later this month: opening in Stillwater Sept. 28 at 14304 60th St. N. With the one on 1950 O’Neil Road in Hudson, the auto repair adds a fourth to the local community. “I think it’s amazing to be part of the community and be over in this area and not just in New Richmond,” said Pete Bidne, who serves as the chief operations officer for the New Richmond location. “Being able to help people out — everybody that lives around here — and support their community in every way we can.” Julie Behr, the chief marketing officer, agreed: “We believe in just taking care of that community aspect and being a transparent shop.” “Where people can come in and feel trusted that they know where they’re getting their car fixed and that we’re doing it right,” she added. The company offers a range of services — oil changes, exhaust systems, diesel repair — which is what Behr is looking forward to people discovering when coming to the auto shop. That and the company’s overall focus.  “I’m excited for everyone to experience what St. Croix [Automotive] offers,” she said. “The family-focused energy that we bring to the table, the full service automotive, anything but body repair.” The Hudson location will be its biggest, featuring 22 vehicle bays. For that scale of car storage, St. Croix Automotive brought on Derrick Building Solutions, a New Richmond design-build commercial general contractor. Derrick Building Solutions also constructed its New Richmond location.  Members of the firm and crew working on the site attended the groundbreaking. Take Geoff Phillipps, the field superintendent for the project. He also has previous experience working for the automotive company.  Phillipps oversees site safety, scheduling and the minor details of starting and finishing the project. Phillipps and the rest of the team will work throughout the seasons and weather Wisconsin has to offer — until the project is done. Attendees wore hard hats and smiled for photo-ops at the groundbreaking. Now it’s about getting to a grand opening. “We’re fit for it,” Phillipps said. “It takes a little bit longer, obviously, but we thrive in that kind of stuff.”  Updates to this project and other sites can be found on Facebook: facebook.com/StCroixAuto/.
