CHESTERTOWN — Vicco Von Voss, the renowned furniture designer and sculptor, has announced the official launch of the Legacy Table.
The new collection out now is “designed to bring museum-quality craftsmanship and sustainable artistry into more homes across the Eastern Shore and beyond.”
Voss, born in Kiel, Germany, and a 1991 graduate of Washington College, has operated his studio in Chestertown since 1994. He is known in the artists community for creating one of a kind, “functional sculptures for private estates.”
After graduating with a degree in fine art, he embarked on a 3-year carpentry apprenticeship in Hamburg, Germany. There, Voss was introduced to the world of contemporary furniture, influenced by both his grandfathers—one a forester/ woodcarver, the other an architect who worked with Frank Lloyd Wright in post-war Germany.
Through the years Voss’s methodology is to use the natural curves and unique grain patterns of the wood to craft his pieces. He oversees the entire process, from the careful milling and drying of the lumber to the final delivery and installation.
“This full-circle involvement ensures that each piece is not just a work of furniture, but a functional sculpture—a living, useable work of art that carries the spirit of the tree into your home,” Voss said. “The result is a fusion of nature and craftsmanship.”
In his newest collection, Voss is shifting focus to a broader accessibility. That means a midrange line which maintains some of his “signature organic aesthetic but more affordable.”
“My work has always been about honoring the life of the tree,” says Voss. “With the Legacy Table, I wanted to create a piece that isn’t just for a gallery or a private collection, but for the family dinner, the morning coffee and the everyday moments. It’s about making sustainable, hand-crafted furniture accessible to a new generation of collectors.”
To do this, he still uses a “tree-first” philosophy. “Every Legacy Table is born from locally sourced, salvaged timber,” Voss said, working with local tree removal services to rescue fallen and deceased trees.
While using trees from the Eastern Shore, as an artist, he sees that each table “carries a story of the local landscape.” “It transforms what would have been a waste into a lasting heirloom.”
Voss listed some key features of what his customers can expect from his Legacy Tables.
Locally sourced materials are crafted from storm-fallen or salvaged Maryland timber, ensuring a minimal carbon footprint.
Artisanal accessibility translates to a streamlined design process allowing for a more accessible price point without sacrificing the hand-finished quality.
The pieces’ timeless design features the artist’s signature traditional joinery (mortise-and-tenon) and organic “live-edge” inspirations highlighting the natural curves of the wood.
Forging a community connection, Voss says the pieces are produced right here in Chestertown by a small team of dedicated local craftsmen.
Voss is proud to announce this collection as his work is summed up in their motto: “Designed by nature. Built with intention. Handmade to last for generations.”
