Благодаря пожертвованию земли семья Райс обеспечила будущее расширение больницы в Боуманвилле

Bowmanville Hospital is celebrating a solution for future parking needs thanks to a new land acquisition. The hospital acquired land from the Rice family, who have a long history of supporting the hospital, including providing another plot of land in 1971 that was eventually used for the former helipad. “My parents believed in taking care of their community,” Andrew Rice said of the partnership. “They had a vision for local health-care growth and were prepared to support it, every step of the way.” To make the acquisition possible, Rice worked to relocate multiple tenants and businesses from the lands, located on the north side of Queen Street, adjacent to the hospital, to allow for the creation of a parking lot that will serve the future hospital expansion. “To prepare the site in six months, we transitioned four families to relocated homes, relocated two business and removed all six buildings,” Rice explained of the project, noting it was a group effort. “When a community hospital needs to grow, no one in the community should be left behind,” Rice said. “When we were working to relocate residents and businesses, it was very much everyone pulling together, not landlord versus tenant or neighbour versus hospital — everyone worked toward this goal.” Rice said the news caused some upset among tenants at first, but everyone quickly came on board. He recalls one employee at Pizza Hut telling him, “Relocation is a huge problem, but my husband is alive because of a hospital, so I get what you are trying to do here. “With an aging population and a world of budget restrictions, we hope all realize that we each need to all find our own way to support this project. We all have family members, friends or neighbours who have turned to the hospital for help in terrifying moments. If we come together as a community to make the redevelopment project a success, we can create a significant and lasting impact by supporting Lakeridge Health and the Bowmanville Hospital Foundation.” - Clarington This Week He commended both Pizza Hut, which will open soon in its new home beside Bowmanville Family Restaurant, and Bowmanville Glass for their co-operation. The acquisition of the land will allow the hospital to scale back plans for a parking garage, cutting costs and allowing more funds to go toward other needs. Once completed, the expansion will see the hospital more than double in size, enabling increased health-care capacity by expanding critical care services and introducing modern, patient-centred facilities, including private rooms, ambulatory care clinics and a hemodialysis centre. “Building a hospital takes a community,” Cynthia Davis, CEO of Lakeridge Health, said in a statement. “We’re deeply grateful to the Bowmanville Hospital Foundation, the Rice family and everyone who believes in the future of local health care. Together, we’re turning our vision of “One System. Best Health.” into reality and ensuring generations of families have access to exceptional care close to home.” Clarington Mayor Adrian Foster praised the Rice family for their ongoing support of the hospital. “Their kindness, foresight and generosity matter deeply to all the residents of our growing community who need access to high-quality health care, close to home,” Foster said. “We’re lucky that Clarington is home to some of the most caring and community-minded citizens anywhere.” - Clarington This Week Tenders for the hospital project are being considered, with a contract expected to be awarded in the fall. Once a contract is awarded, construction is expected to begin shortly after. For more information on the project or to donate, visit www.wecarewecan.ca. Error!
