Бронирование автобусов в Брансоне: как маркетинг и участие в ABA Marketplace привлекают групповых туристов

Last week, we looked at the role group travel has played in helping Branson extend its tourism season beyond the traditional summer months. But those motorcoaches don’t just show up. Somebody has to convince them to come. And before a tour operator can fill a motorcoach headed to Branson, there have to be people back home who want to make the trip. That demand begins long before an itinerary is built. Potential visitors see Branson through national advertising, television, digital marketing, social media and other destination promotions. They become familiar with the shows, attractions and experiences Branson offers. Maybe Branson makes its way onto the list of places they’d like to visit someday. That awareness gives a tour operator something to sell. The two sides work together. Destination marketing creates interest among travelers, while group sales professionals build relationships with the tour operators who can turn that interest into a busload of visitors. For decades, one of the places Branson has built those relationships is the American Bus Association Marketplace, commonly known as ABA. And Branson invests heavily in being there. According to Ashlie Beede, Chief Sales Officer for the Branson/Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce and CVB, Explore Branson’s presence at this year’s ABA Marketplace in Reno represented an investment of approximately $90,000. That investment is much more than simply sending a few salespeople to a convention. Explore Branson created a fully branded 40-by-40-foot ice cream and iced coffee booth on the trade show floor, maintained a dedicated book of appointments with tour operators and produced the annual Branson Dine Around, complete with live entertainment brought from Branson. Three CVB staff members made the trip. But they weren’t alone. Twenty-five Branson business partners also traveled to Reno to sell their individual businesses. Those partners paid their own ABA-related costs and travel expenses, making their investment separate from the approximately $90,000 spent by the CVB. Why would the CVB and 25 private businesses invest that much time and money in one industry event? Because the people on the other side of those appointments can determine where thousands of travelers go next. 2,500 People and 70,000 Opportunities ABA Marketplace brings together buyers and sellers from across the group travel industry. According to the American Bus Association, approximately 2,500 people attended the 2026 Marketplace in Reno, including 762 motorcoach and tour operators. The event offered more than 70,000 business appointment slots. The buyers sit at tables while sellers representing destinations, theaters, attractions, hotels, receptive companies and other tourism businesses move through scheduled appointments. The meetings are short. The potential value of the relationships is not. Beede said Explore Branson conducted 50 appointments during this year’s Marketplace. Those appointments generated 27 qualified leads for the destination. Across all of the CVB leisure groups team’s efforts so far this year, Beede said more than 60 qualified leads have been generated from businesses actively booking bus tours to Branson. But some of the most important selling may happen outside those formal appointments. Each year, Branson hosts a Dine Around, inviting tour operators to spend an evening with Branson representatives and entertainers. The performers change from year to year, giving Branson an opportunity to showcase the variety of entertainment available in the destination. The tour operators attend as Branson’s guests. This year’s Dine Around attracted more than 150 people, according to Beede, making it the largest one Branson has hosted to date. Those dinners, appointments and conversations are all built around the same objective: when a tour operator starts building the next itinerary, Branson needs to be remembered. The Women Who Helped Build the Business For Angie Greeno of Ozarks Kirkwood, ABA isn’t a new strategy. Her company has been attending ABA for approximately 45 years, and Greeno herself has worked in Branson’s receptive tour business for 33 years. A receptive company is a part of the tourism industry most visitors, and probably many Branson residents, never see. It works behind the scenes with tour operators, helping put together lodging, shows, attractions, meals and the other pieces that turn a destination into an itinerary. Greeno remembers two women who helped pioneer that business in Branson: Pat Shue and Denise Greeno. “They were the queens,” Greeno said. Shue owned a hotel when people began calling with a question: What if I bring a bus? She saw the need for someone to help those operators put all the pieces together, and an industry grew around bringing those groups to Branson. Denise Greeno is Angie’s mother-in-law. She still attends ABA from time to time. Today, Ozarks Kirkwood often works the event with three members of the Greeno family: Denise, her daughter Joy, and daughter-in-law Angie. After approximately 45 years, they keep showing up. And they keep writing the checks. What Does It Cost a Branson Business? Greeno agreed to share some of Ozarks Kirkwood’s expenses to give readers a glimpse at what participating in ABA can cost a private Branson business. As an ABA operator and supplier, the company pays approximately $3,195 annually, Greeno said, although that amount can be higher for a newer participant. Lodging at ABA host hotels generally runs between $1,600 and $1,800 for the company’s three-person team. Transportation costs vary with the event location. For the upcoming Calgary event, Greeno said airfare for all three will cost $1,736. Then there is the Branson Dine Around. Tour operators attend as Branson’s guests, so Branson participants help shoulder the expense. Greeno estimates that cost at approximately $500 per Branson participant, although it can vary from year to year. For Ozarks Kirkwood’s three-person team, those identifiable expenses can easily exceed $8,000 before other incidental costs. And Ozarks Kirkwood is only one business. The other Branson partners attending ABA make their own investments in membership, registration, travel, lodging and other expenses, separate from the approximately $90,000 invested by the CVB in Branson’s overall Marketplace presence. So why does a private company continue spending thousands of dollars to attend? Greeno has a fairly convincing answer. She estimates approximately 40% of Ozarks Kirkwood’s business comes from members of the American Bus Association. What Happens After the Appointment? There is another reason the value of Marketplace can be difficult to measure by looking only at what happens during the event. The American Bus Association Foundation commissioned Tourism Economics to examine the business generated by its 2026 Marketplace. Following the event, 328 of the 1,308 participating firms responded to the survey. According to the resulting 2026 ABA Marketplace Business Impact Report, participating firms reported an estimated $49 million in business booked directly as a result of Marketplace and another $75.9 million in anticipated future business connected to meetings and relationships developed there. Together, the report estimated $124.9 million in sales-based transaction activity associated with the event. Those are industry-wide figures, not dollars generated specifically for Branson. But they help explain why destinations and private businesses continue investing in face-to-face relationships. Kristy Adams has worked in Branson’s tourism and group market since 1999, beginning at Dolly Parton’s Stampede, later working with Titanic Museum Attraction and today working at The Mansion Theatre, which hosts large events and nationally known entertainers, including The Oak Ridge Boys. Adams said ABA is still very much a relationship game. A contract may not be signed during an appointment. Business can come throughout the year because operators know the people they are doing business with and have learned to trust them. “The coaches are our gravy,” Adams said. And she pushes back against the idea that motorcoach travel is a dying market. Tour operators have major investments in their coaches. They aren’t simply going to park them because the traditional motorcoach customer has changed. Instead, Adams said, operators are finding different markets, changing their formats, modifying schedules and becoming more flexible. A group doesn’t necessarily have to spend every minute together anymore. Operators can drop passengers at different locations and build itineraries around the way today’s travelers want to experience a destination. Greeno sees the changing market too. “It’s not just senior travel,” she said. Sports teams travel by bus. Churches travel together. Student groups travel. And Greeno is seeing more multigenerational travel, including grandparents bringing grandchildren along. She is also seeing another change this year: fewer groups, but larger groups. An operator who might once have made seven trips carrying 20 people may instead make five trips carrying 50. Simply counting the number of groups may no longer tell the entire story. Motorcoach Season Is Right Around the Corner Before we know it, motorcoaches will once again be traveling our roads and lined up outside Branson’s theaters, restaurants and hotels. Their passengers will be eating in our restaurants, shopping in our stores and malls, staying in our hotels, visiting our attractions and filling seats in our theaters. You may never sell a show ticket, book a hotel room or attend an ABA Marketplace, but that doesn’t mean the group business doesn’t affect you. Tourism dollars don’t stop at the front door of a theater or hotel. Tourism businesses employ our neighbors, purchase goods and services from other local companies and generate tax revenue that supports the community we all share. When those businesses succeed, those dollars continue moving through the Ozarks economy. Our community has invested heavily in getting these visitors here. So have the individual businesses whose livelihoods depend on them. Maybe the rest of us can help protect that investment. When you see visitors wearing name tags while shopping, dining or waiting for a show, ask where they’re from. Ask how they’re enjoying our little town. Then thank them for coming to see us. And when you pass a motorcoach, wave as if your family just showed up. It doesn’t cost a dime. Just be Ozarks friendly.
