Тренер Роберт Мур завершает 26-летнюю карьеру в школе Sandwich Secondary School

For more than a quarter-century, Robert (Rob) Moore has been synonymous with excellence in Windsor-Essex track and field. After 26 years leading the Sandwich Secondary School track and field program, Moore is stepping away from his role as head coach, leaving behind one of the most successful high school programs in Ontario. Throughout his career, Moore helped transform the Sabres into a perennial provincial powerhouse while mentoring generations of student-athletes both on and off the track. Although his chapter at Sandwich has come to a close, Moore’s involvement in the sport is far from over. He continues to serve as an associate coach with Border City Athletics Club, where he remains committed to developing the next generation of athletes and coaches. Moore’s passion for coaching began with his own experiences as a high school runner. “I had great coaches growing up, and when I knew my track career was pretty much over after high school, I wanted to give back. I learned so much from them, and I wanted to do the same thing they did.” That desire to give back became the foundation of a coaching career that spanned more than two decades and produced countless championships, provincial medals, and lifelong memories. Despite track and field often being viewed as an individual sport, Moore believes the greatest accomplishment of the Sandwich program was creating something much bigger than competition. “Track and field is a very individual sport, but we made it feel like a team. I think that’s what the kids loved most, it became a family.” That family atmosphere became a trademark of the Sabres. Athletes from every discipline, sprinters, distance runners, jumpers, throwers, and relay teams, were united under one culture, one that emphasized commitment, encouragement, and pride in wearing the Sandwich colours. Looking back, Moore says the relationships he built are what he values most. “The opportunity to give back to the kids, the legacy we built as a coaching staff at Sandwich, and seeing the smiles on the athletes’ faces, that’s what I’m most proud of.” Moore’s dedication speaks for itself. During his 26 seasons at Sandwich, Moore estimates he missed only five practices. “Some of the best memories of my life came from those kids. I’m going to miss every single athlete I’ve ever coached.” Moore’s impact has extended well beyond the track. Earlier this year, the Town of LaSalle recognized his decades of service by presenting him with its inaugural Legacy Award, honouring his lasting influence on generations of student-athletes and the Windsor-Essex track and field community. While Moore is retiring from the demanding schedule of high school coaching, his passion for track and field remains as strong as ever. In addition to continuing with Border City Athletics, he hopes to become an official and remain involved in organizing major championship meets throughout Windsor-Essex. The region is also preparing to host the 2028 OFSAA Track and Field Championships at the University of Windsor, an event Moore will help organize. As one chapter closes, another begins. Rob Moore may no longer lead the Sandwich Sabres each spring, but his influence will continue to shape athletes, coaches, and the sport he has devoted his life to. As Moore put it best: “I’m never going to leave the sport. I love track and field, it’s my life.” Error! Sorry, there was an error processing your request. There was a problem with the recaptcha.
