Fitzgibbon Hospital in Marshall has transitioned to the management of American Medical Administrators, Inc., following the U.S. Bankruptcy Court's approval of the transaction on Tuesday.  Fitzgibbon Hospital, the Living Center Skilled Nursing Facility and the Fitzgibbon-operated Rural Health Clinics will remain open through the transitional period, but specific services may be modified as American Medical Administrators evaluates the community's needs, according to a news release from American Medical Administrators. “Our immediate priority is ensuring continuity of care while we work alongside the Fitzgibbon team to evaluate operations and establish a sustainable path forward,” American Medical Administrators CEO Nick DeStefane said. “Fitzgibbon Hospital has a long history of serving this region, and we are committed to preserving access to high-quality healthcare while positioning these operations for long-term stability.” In December 2025, Fitzgibbon Hospital cut services to save more than $2 million annually and to restructure finances amid bankruptcy. It closed its inpatient behavioral health unit at its hospital in Marshall, ended its home health and hospice services, and closed its primary care clinics in Howard and Chariton counties, according to a news release from the hospital. The hospital announced in April that it would voluntarily file for protection under Chapter 11 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code, commonly known as reorganization. “We are grateful for the dedication shown by the physicians, nurses, caregivers and staff who have served this community through challenging circumstances,” Fitzgibbon CEO Angy Littrell said. “Their commitment to patient care has been extraordinary.” To report an error or typo, email [email protected].
