Дэн Шер назначен директором по доходам и маркетингу в газетной группе The Gazette

SCHENECTADY — The Gazette News Group welcomes a new face in a new role on Tuesday, as Albany-raised Dan Sher joins the company as the Director of Revenue, Marketing and Growth. The Albany High School graduate has more than three decades of experience in news, marketing and communications. His role will focus on both sides of revenue: subscriptions and advertising. “It’s interesting to be back and see what it is like now, and how it’s changed and how there is so much opportunity in this market,” Sher said. His family used to subscribe to what was then an afternoon newspaper,  the Knickerbocker News. “The future of local news really isn’t just about better journalism; it’s about smarter and more sustainable ways to fund it and grow it,” he continued, “and that’s what's really appealing about the piece I get to help with at the Gazette.” Sher comes to the Gazette News Group after serving in multiple leadership roles in and outside the media industry, including at places like Lee Enterprises and Hearst. Most recently, he served as a marketing and communications consultant and fractional chief marketing officer at Shared Vision Media. Though Sher said he has “so many” goals, in the short term at the Gazette News Group, he is focused on learning who the audience is and better understanding what the communities spanning from Gloversville to Lake Placid want from the local news. Each of those markets has different needs, he said. Knowing more allows the newsroom to grow, the Gazette News Group to do more and to “deliver more impactful journalism.” Unlike many media companies that are shrinking resources, the Gazette News Group is investing in local news, he said, and part of the appeal of his new role is that it helps local journalism grow rather than just hang on. "Dan brings a powerful combination of strategic vision and hands-on execution to our team," said John J DeAugustine, president and owner of the Gazette News Group. "He has a proven track record of using audience, customer, and campaign data to uncover hidden opportunities and deliver measurable, high-impact results." In his career, Sher has coordinated brand leadership, incorporated marketing campaigns across multiple platforms and led integration of acquired businesses, winning awards for his work along the way. He also has experience as an online editor and journalist. Sher has a Bachelor of Arts in history from Binghamton University. “There’s a great team at the Gazette, and it’s growing, and I think that’s a really exciting opportunity,” Sher said. “Because again it’s about informing the public; it's about developing relationships; it’s about being present in the communities we serve and I think that’s all a really amazing mission to get behind.”
