Жители Филлипсбурга получили разрешение вернуться в дома после оползней

PHILLIPSBURG, N.J. -- Heading home. Displaced residents in a New Jersey town can now return to their houses. One longtime homeowner took 69 News inside of her Phillipsburg home of more than 30 years, to get a closer look at the damage that she calls terrifying and beyond repair. "I want to be home," said the resident, who asked to remain anonymous. "We want to be back in our homes." For more than three decades, the resident has called the Summit Avenue house her home and a quiet space to make memories. "I start hearing these loud bangs," the resident said. It was unusual and right around a rather hectic time in February. The town just declared a state of emergency, when Summit Avenue and Lewis Street experienced a double dose of sinkholes, one swallowing a dump truck, the other a car. "The loud bangs were coming from the cement, literally cracking," said the resident. "I went to the basement. I pulled the rug up, and I have this big crack. You could have literally put your hand through that hole. You can see where the house is actually pulled away from, from the floor." Inside and outside. "And there's this big hole in my front yard now, and my porch is pulling on my house and it's tipping. My house is literally twisted this way because it came this way," described the resident. With only 15 minutes to leave the house, the resident and families from seven other houses, emptied, forced to flee a place they used to call home. Nearly seven months have passed. In that time, the dump truck was removed, the holes were patched up and funds arrived from Trenton, as engineers, architects, local and state leaders and Governor Mikie Sherrill visited the site. Yet, one thing stayed the same; orange "unsafe structure notices" hung on a row of front doors. "We have been told that it is stable," said the resident. Phillipsburg Mayor Randy Piazza said people now have the go-ahead to head home, but the resident said the thought poses more concern than comfort. "There's no way we're getting back into our home unless it's fixed," the resident said. "We just take it one day at a time." The resident said she wonders whether repair or demolition is the better option. In six months from now, she said she can't picture what her life will be like or where she will be living. There is no word on what caused the sinkholes.
