Учитель Ханна Мартинес стала педагогом года в округе Юма и получила награду «20 звезд под 40 лет»

Editor’s note: This profile of the 20 Under 40 award-winner first appeared in BIZ magazine, a publication of the Yuma Sun. The 20 Under 40 Rising Stars Awards, a partnership between BIZ and NexGen Leadership Council, recognizes 20 community members between the ages of 18 and 40 who have excelled in their respective professions and strive to make a difference every day in our community. Hannah Martinez has spent the past six years inspiring young learners as a third-grade teacher while also helping fellow educators grow through professional development and mentorship. A proud Yuma native and Yuma High School graduate, she has built her career around a deep belief in the power of education. Her dedication to teaching was recognized this year when she was named the 2026 Yuma County Teacher of the Year, one of her proudest professional accomplishments. She also earned recognition as one of her district’s “High Five Employees,” an honor celebrating excellence and leadership in the classroom. As a leader, Martinez’s influence carries well outside her own classroom. She provides districtwide professional development focused on classroom technology, personalized learning and classroom management strategies. She also helps facilitate the 21st Century program, providing before and after school opportunities that enrich students’ educational experiences. She believes educators should never stop learning, saying, “Being a teacher means that you are also a lifelong learner.” Outside the classroom, Martinez remains deeply involved in the Yuma community through adult soccer leagues, softball, local run clubs and community races. Her passion for teamwork and personal growth carries into every aspect of her life. Although winning Teacher of the Year was an unforgettable milestone, the celebration that followed left the greatest impression. Returning to campus, she was greeted by students and staff lining the hallways and cheering her on. “They were so proud and excited for me,” she recalled. “That tunnel of celebration will be the most memorable for me.” Within the years to come, Martinez plans to continue teaching while adapting to the ever-changing landscape of education. She hopes to keep leading professional development for fellow teachers and looks forward to one very special and meaningful milestone, “Watching my very first class of third graders graduate high school.” She encourages other young professionals to trust themselves and recognize the value they’ve earned. “The success and knowledge that you have... is not just an overabundance of random good luck,” she said. “It’s the product of your patience, willingness and determination.” Martinez believes Yuma can continue attracting young professionals by investing in education and community engagement. She advocates for free business classes and earlier exposure to entrepreneurship, believing that “knowledge is power” and can help inspire future leaders.
