Госпиталь Гуама погасил долги за электроэнергию и воду, опровергнув угрозу остановки работы

According to Public Information Officer Tihu Lujan, GMHA has made its utility payments and is current on its power and water accounts. Lujan said the hospital authority paid $393,338.40 for power on Thursday, covering outstanding payments due for May and June, and is currently processing its June water payments of approximately $65,000. Outdated documents from the Guam Power Authority and Guam Waterworks Authority showed that the hospital had a past-due power bill balance of $360,203.29 as of June 16, a past-due water bill balance of $213,326 as of May 31, and a past-due water bill balance of $53,709 as of June 30. After reviewing the specific figures reflected in the GPA and GWA reports with the hospital’s finance team, Lujan confirmed that the aging reports in their documents were old and not accurate of current status. According to payment records provided by Lujan, the hospital most recently made four payments to GPA of $26,231.82, $169,075.46, $26,761.53 and $171,269.59 on Aug. 20. Remaining payments are also being processed, Lujan added. Records show three planned payments of $53,919.09, $38.25 and $11,480.42 to GWA on Aug. 24. These payments are for settling charges from the months of May and June. Lujan said there is no current threat of interruption related to payment, and patient care and hospital operations remain unaffected. “GMHA continues to strengthen its Accounts Payable processes and is paying its obligations more consistently and timely than in previous periods. GMHA maintains three emergency generators that are routinely tested and maintained to support critical hospital operations during power interruptions,” Lujan said. However, actual operating duration depends on the circumstances of an outage and operational requirements, Lujan added. Should a power or water outage occur or be expected, particularly because of “foreseeable adverse weather conditions,” the hospital coordinates in advance with its vendors to ensure resources necessary are maintained for continuous and safe operation. In responding to unforeseen events, Lujan said GMHA follows its established continuity-of-operations policies and procedures in accordance with applicable federal requirements. “GMHA also maintains approximately 420,000 gallons of backup water storage on hospital premises as part of its preparedness for potential water interruptions. GMHA remains prepared to maintain critical hospital operations and protect continuity of patient care during utility disruptions,” Lujan said. Pacific Daily News reported last August that GMH held the second-highest past-due water and power bill balances among GovGuam agencies. GPA recorded the hospital having a past-due power bill of $1.1 million at one point in 2025, and GWA reported a past-due water bill balance of $149,945.
