I agree with the compliance agreement schedule and understand that, because DEQ is responsible for environmental enforcement, DEQ has the authority to withhold engineering approvals for new sewer hookups.I have asked DEQ as well as the Bellevue Planning and Zoning Commission to exercise that authority to deny these new approvals immediately.The residents living near the ponds have already suffered immeasurably. It would be unconscionable to compound that harm by approving additional sewer infrastructure that would place even more waste into a system that is already failing to meet standards. These residents should not be forced to continue bearing the consequences of the city’s infrastructure and compliance failures. To do so would be not only unfair, but an affront to their dignity and quality of life.
