(MV) — Caitlyn Crisostomo, a library assistant and teen services coordinator at Joeten-Kiyu Public Library, has been named this year’s recipient of the Karen Peacock Memorial Award for her dedication, service and contributions to the library community in the Pacific region. The Pacific Islands Association of Libraries, Archives and Museums announced the award and congratulated Crisostomo in a recent announcement. The award is funded by the Hawaii Library Association in partnership with PIALA and recognizes individuals who have demonstrated outstanding service to the Pacific library community. Crisostomo serves as Library Assistant I and Teen Services Coordinator at JKPL on Saipan. The award honors the legacy of Dr. Karen M. Peacock, a professor emeritus and retired curator of the Pacific Collection at the University of Hawaii at Manoa’s Hamilton Library. Peacock died in 2010. According to PIALA, Peacock spent her childhood in Palau, Pohnpei and Saipan, where her father, Daniel J. Peacock, served as director of library services. Karen Peacock was devoted to the Pacific, particularly Micronesia, and dedicated considerable time and energy to supporting libraries, archives and museums throughout the region. She also advised and mentored many Pacific Islanders she encountered through her work. She was among the founding members of PIALA and participated in numerous annual conferences throughout the Pacific. The Hawaii Library Association and PIALA established the annual award to honor Karen Peacock’s legacy and continue supporting the work of Pacific libraries, archives and museums. PIALA congratulated Crisostomo on receiving the award, describing the recognition as a well-deserved honor for her service to the library community.
