Вествилль почтит ветерана ВМФ и историка Розанн Виктору на празднике Труда

WESTVILLE — Westville’s 115th Labor Day Celebration will be in full swing this weekend with live music, a carnival, vendors, fireworks and other activities at Zamberletti Park and St. Mary’s Catholic Church. The parade on Monday kicks off at 11:30 a.m. The Westville Lions Club plans to honor two people on Labor Day weekend: Fred Hill, Westville’s Living Legacy Award winner, and Roseann Viktora, who died last month and is being remembered and recognized as an honorary parade marshal. Hill, a 1967 Westville High School graduate, said about his honor, “it’s a big thrill.” Hill served for 22 years as an emergency room technician with the U.S. Navy, eventually retiring as a commanding officer. Following that retirement, he worked at a Naval hospital before eventually settling in Farmville, Va. After retirement, Hill has served as an adjutant of VFW Post 7059 in Farmville, working to support veterans throughout a nine-county area of Virginia. Viktora, a longtime community volunteer, dedicated public servant, community historian and lifelong Westville resident, died Aug. 9. Throughout her life, the 1972 Westville High graduate remained committed to preserving and promoting Westville’s history. She also served on the zoning and village boards. One of Viktora’s most lasting accomplishments was her work with the Westville Historical Depot and Museum, where she devoted more than 26 years. She also served as a committee member for Westville’s Sesquicentennial Celebration and again in 2026 on Westville’s Freedom Celebration Committee. ”She embodied the very best of Westville. Through her service, faith, compassion and dedication to preserving our coal mining and ethnic heritage, she ensured that the past would never be forgotten and that future generations would understand and appreciate the community she loved so dearly. Her passing leaves an immeasurable void, but her legacy lives on in every story preserved at the depot, throughout the Village of Westville, every piece of Westville history she helped protect, every smile she shared and every life she touched,” according to village trustee Gary Delhaye.
