База «Редстоун» отказывается от пластиковых пропусков в пользу водительских прав и бумажных талонов

Redstone Arsenal is phasing out physical contractor’s badges for access to the installation. Moving forward, contractors can access the installation with their driver’s license or a paper visitor’s pass for entry. “The (Automated Installation Entry) system we have has the capability of registering driver’s licenses to use as a credential to get on post,” Brian Reinwald, chief of Redstone’s Protection Division, said. “It’s a cost-saving and security thing.” This push comes from the Department of the Army and the Office of the Provost Marshal General giving guidance to security professionals at Redstone. The Army will not be funding the printing of these cards in the future. Reinwald noted that these badges are issued at the Visitor Control Center at Gate 9 and the information that is required for a physical badge is the same. When this access is issued, employees should note that when their driver’s license expires, their access does as well. However, the paper pass has a different expiration date. Those having their license scanned must have their new one registered. Facial recognition lanes are now available at Gates 1 and 9 and those that have contractor’s badges or paper passes can use this lane without having to scan anything. Reinwald said that the database is the same for these lanes and the same scanning procedures are followed. “A lot of the tenants on the installation have been accepting those cards we issue for access into their facilities. It’s not really what those cards were meant to do … these tenants should have their own access control system in place,” he said.
