Ювелирный магазин в Зайонсвилле проводит инклюзивные мероприятия для поддержки разнообразия сообщества

Robert Goodman Jewelers in Zionsville offers more to the community than diamond rings and necklaces. It started when Goodman received a call from a friend suggesting they put on a public menorah lighting in Zionsville. The goal was for Jewish children to feel a sense of pride about the holiday. After the turnout, they decided to host a separate event for their Muslim friends. From there, the variety and quantity of events grew to encompass more groups in the Zionsville community. This year, they hosted events like Drag Story Hour and a mural painting that represents the LGBTQ community. “We think it's important for people to learn to accept everybody—people of different colors, immigrants,” said Rose-Marie Goodman, who co-owns the store with her husband, Robert. “Everybody isn’t white, or the same, or thinks the same as we do.” The Goodmans believe in opening people's eyes to the diversity of the Zionsville community. Rose-Marie and Robert are both Jewish but are unabashed in sharing different viewpoints at their store through these events. “They’re family events. When parents see what's out there and that it's not just one color and one religion, hopefully they’ll talk about that with their kids,” said Rose-Marie. They have experienced backlash from those who believe they should stick to just business-related things. Rose-Marie said people have left hateful and inappropriate comments on their Facebook page. “It’s difficult not to respond to these comments,” she said. “I believe in doing the right thing. I’m sure we’ve lost people. Robert and I say those aren’t our customers anyway.” During one of their most commonly held events, Drag Story Hour, a local drag artist named Honey Bunn reads books, often about families with two moms or two dads, to children. The last one took place on July 11. “We’ve developed something called a human model. Humans are at the top of our mind. You can find that on our website,” said Robert. “This is simply a part of practicing the human model.”
