CLEARFIELD — The Lawrence Township Board of Supervisors voted to approve the purchase of fleet management software at its meeting Tuesday.
Township manager Ashley Pritchard recommended the township purchase IWorQs fleet management software at a cost of $3,800 per year plus $500 for installation. She said this includes a Wi-Fi enabled tablet.
Pritchard said the software would allow the township to track all of its vehicles — including those with the road crew, the police department and the fire department, as well as the maintenance on each of the vehicles, their maintenance schedules, work orders, etc.
She said the software would track how much they are spending on each of the vehicles to help determine whether they should be replaced, and also said the software would send reminders when maintenance or recalls are due.
Pritchard also said the software would manage the township’s inventories of vehicle fluids, lights etc.
“I just think it would be really helpful,” Pritchard said.
The township already uses IworQs software in the code enforcement department to manage permits and the software would be an add-on to the township’s existing system, Pritchard said.
Supervisor Jeremy Ruffner asked Code Enforcement Officer Agatha Lauder what her opinion of the software was.
“I love it,” Lauder said.
Pritchard said Brian Rumsky, a mechanic on the road crew, attended the demonstration of the software and she said Rumsky liked the software and thought it would improve efficiency.
It was approved on a 2-1 vote. Way voted in opposition. He did not state his reasons for why he voted against purchasing the software.
Ruffner said he does not oppose spending money on software upgrades if it increases efficiency and Powell said he is “good” with the purchase of the software.
“Sometimes you buy a piece of software and it’s $3,800, but the amount of efficiency you gain is worth its weight in gold, and if that is the case I don’t have any issue with it,” Ruffner said.
In other business:
- During the public comment portion of the meeting, Christina Fulton asked the supervisors, with Clearfield Borough withdrawing from the Clearfield Regional Police Department at the end of the year, to consider seeking another municipal partner for the CRPD, to keep it functioning past this year. She said the supervisors do not have to make a decision on this now, but she asked them to consider it. The supervisors declined to comment on Fulton’s proposal when asked after the meeting.
- Township manager Ashley Pritchard announced the township now has a newsletter and residents interested in receiving it should contact the township office and provide their name, street, and email address.
The supervisors voted to:
- Accept the resignation of Randy Walker from the road crew effective Sept. 10 and thank him for his years of service to the township and to advertise for replacements for his position.
- To approve placing a Community Box at the township building for dry goods food products for use by people in need.
- Set the second Community Development Block Grant meeting for Sept. 15 at 4:50 p.m.
- Table the motion to set the date for Trunk-or-Treat at the township building to make sure it doesn’t conflict with the Clearfield Halloween Parade.
- Table re-advertising for bids for putting the property at 1215 Woodland Road up for sale. Ruffner recommended they table the motion because the property could soon increase in value.
- Table the request by the road crew to continue the four 10-hour day workweek into the first full week of November due to ongoing contract negotiations with the union. Currently, the four-10 hour day workweek is scheduled to end the first week of October, according to Pritchard.
- Approve paying Point Spring & Driveshaft Co. of Clearfield $613.68 to repair the brakes on the township’s tanker truck.
