Ресторан The Corner в Саг-Харборе отложил открытие на неопределенный срок для доработки меню и интерьера

The Corner restaurant, the longtime Sag Harbor institution, delayed its originally scheduled grand opening on Friday night as the new owners sought to put some final finishing touches on the revamped space and menus. The husband and wife team of John and Kelly Piccinnini shared the news of the delayed opening in an Instagram post on Friday, after the restaurant opened its doors for a soft “friends and family” test run two days earlier. “We had an incredible couple of days welcoming friends and family into The Corner, and we’re so grateful for everyone’s feedback, encouragement and excitement,” the post read. “After putting our teams, system and menu through the first real test, we’ve decided to take a few more days to fine tune the details before opening our doors. “We know many of you were planning to join us tonight, and we’re truly sorry for the change of plans. We’ve been looking forward to welcoming you just as much as you’ve been looking forward to joining us, but we want to make sure that when we open, we’re ready to give this community the experience it deserves from day one. Thank you for your patience, understanding and support as we put the finishing touches on The Corner. We can’t wait to welcome you in very soon. Stay tuned.” As of Wednesday morning, the owners had yet to share an updated opening date. The local married couple and parents of two bought the business in February for $4.4 million, in partnership with Hildreth Real Estate Investors, which purchased the building. The Piccinninis retain full ownership of the business. They also own the Clam Bar on Napeague Stretch and Sett Coffee in Amagansett. The Corner Bar, which first opened for business under former owner Jim Smyth in 1978, celebrated its last day in business on February 8, with longtime patrons and Sag Harbor locals sharing drinks, songs and memories at the place that has long drawn comparisons to “Cheers,” the 1980s sitcom about a beloved local bar frequented by community members from all walks of life. Since purchasing the restaurant — which they rebranded simply as The Corner — the Piccinninis have become an active part of the community, showing up at various community-minded events, participating in panel discussions and joining civic organizations. From the start, they have maintained that they understand and value the lore of The Corner Bar and the special place it held in the hearts of so many generations of Sag Harbor locals; they’ve vowed to keep that spirit alive while giving the business and the building a breath of new life and vibrancy as well. Their intent to stay true to that promise was clear at the family and friends opening on Wednesday last week. The basic general layout of the restaurant and bar space remains the same, but with an entirely refreshed but still aesthetically similar vibe. One change longtime patrons will notice is the barrier between the bar area and the tables, previously one long unit, is now shorter and broken up in areas, giving patrons more flexibility to move between the bar space and dining room space, which will be key on nights when most of the diners have left and the bar crowd fills in. The menu features favorites and classics like fish and chips ($25) and burgers ($25), lobster roll ($44) and french dip ($28). There’s also a fried chicken sandwich, roasted vegetable wrap and mahi tacos (all $21) and a Cuban Reuben ($23). Shrimp cocktail, roasted scallops and sesame crusted ahi tuna (all $20) are on the menu as well as mussels ($28) for seafood options, and the “soups and greens” portion of the menu features New England clam chowder, french onion soup, caesar salad and a crunch kale salad, grilled corn salad and a summer shrimp salad, all ranging from $12 to $22 in price. There’s also a cocktail menu, beer and wine list, and several draft beers on tap, including offerings from nearby Sag Harbor brewery Kidd Squid. Three large televisions are set up at the bar space, and other TVs are included in the dining rooms for patrons to view sporting events throughout the year. A higher ceiling gives the restaurant a more spacious feeling, and the warm dark sage green painted walls complement the long brick wall on the far side of the dining room. The traditional stained glass window touches above the entrance door and above the smaller window at the literal corner of the building that gives the restaurant its name help retain the feeling of the original space.
