Дискаунтер Dollar General планирует открыть новый магазин в Милфорде на месте бывшей аптеки Rite Aid

Компания подала заявку на изменение арендатора для открытия магазина в здании по адресу 86 Elm St., рассчитывая на открытие в начале 2027 года. Если проект будет одобрен, это станет вторым магазином сети в городе, так как первый уже работает по адресу 70 Wilton Road.

Rite Aid's loss could be Dollar General's gain in Milford
Dollar General, a national discount retail store chain, plans to open a new store in Milford at the site of the former Rite Aid pharmacy at 86 Elm St., town records show.
Dollar General submitted an application for a change of tenancy to the town’s Building Department Sept. 3, in which it said it intends to maintain the 11,095-square-foot building for retail use.
“At this time, we are currently finalizing our due diligence phase for a new Dollar General in Milford, N.H., that would be located at 86 Elm St. We currently expect the store to open in early 2027, but understand that construction progress may alter this date,” a spokesperson at Dollar General’s corporate headquarters in Goodlettsville, Tenn., stated in an email Sept. 4, in response to a media inquiry.
“The store will employ approximately 6-10 employees, depending on the individual needs of the store,” the spokesperson stated. People can apply for available positions at the company’s website, the spokesperson said.
A tenant change application only requires Building Department review, Town Planner Terrence Dolan said. It does not go before the Planning Board or Zoning Board of Adjustment, he said.
Dolan said improvements were made to the property over the summer, including sealcoating and restriping the parking lot. But local officials had no contact from Dollar General regarding its intentions, he said.
“Other than the submission of an electronically filed building department application, there has been no communication from Dollar General,” Dolan said.
The 86 Elm St. site is owned by Daniel G. Kamin Milford LLC and Kamin Realty Management of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, according to town assessor records. It includes about 1.35 acres and has a total market value of $1,590,400, assessor records show.
If the Building Department approves the application, the store would be the second Dollar General in Milford. The other is located less than four miles away at 70 Wilton Road.
Asked how Dollar General decides where to locate its stores, its spokesperson said that “meeting customers’ needs is Dollar General’s top priority when choosing store locations. In selecting store sites, we take a number of factors into consideration, carefully evaluating each potential new store location to ensure we can continue to meet our customers’ price, value and selection needs. We further strive to provide convenience for customers who may not have affordable nearby retail options.”
Besides Dollar General, there is a Dollar Tree store — which is operated by a separate national discount store chain — about six miles away in Amherst. Another Dollar Tree store, located at the east end of Milford, closed in the spring, Dolan said.
In its application, Dollar General said it plans to make “interior alterations of a mercantile store.”
Rite Aid closed its pharmacies after the national drug store chain filed for voluntary Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in May 2025. They included about 50 Rite Aid stores in New Hampshire, two of which were based in Milford.
The other Rite Aid pharmacy in Milford was located at 15 Mont Vernon St. That property is owned by Robert E. Dahms and Maria Molak of San Clemente, California, town assessor records show. Dolan said he is unaware of future plans for that site.
As part of Rite Aid’s federal bankruptcy proceedings, Dollar General and Dollar Tree successfully bid to buy out the remainder of the leases for some Rite Aid locations. Dollar General since opened stores in Laconia, Newmarket and Raymond. Dollar Tree was scheduled to open a store in Dover.
Dollar General describes itself as a “neighborhood general store” with more than 21,000 stores in 48 states, according to its website. Fortune 500 in 2026 ranked it 102 with $42.72 billion in revenues, according to its website. Additionally, Dollar General invested about $292 million in the Dollar General Literacy Foundation since it founded the foundation in 1993, Dollar General stated on its website.
