В округе Чампейн назначен новый директор по вопросам охраны окружающей среды

CHAMPAIGN — A staffer who has risen through the ranks of the Champaign-Urbana Public Health District has been promoted to environmental health director. Penny Murphy is stepping into the role following the retirement of Sarah Michaels, the health district announced Tuesday. Michaels retired in August after 31 years with the district. “I’m excited to continue my career with CUPHD,” Murphy said. “The Environmental Health Division is an amazing team of hard-working professionals who truly care about our community. I look forward to continuing to build and strengthen our relationships with our operators, contractors, homeowners and the many others we serve.” Murphy first joined the health district in 2005 as an environmental health specialist in training and attained the position of Environmental Health Specialist I. She eventually left, but returned to the district in 2009 in the same role and was later promoted to Environmental Health Specialist II, officials said. She became plan review program coordinator in 2016 and most recently served as food-program coordinator, where she reported to Michaels. Murphy is also a member of the Illinois Association of Local Environmental Health Administrators and serves as secretary and treasurer for the organization. Food-safety inspections are among the duties performed by the environmental health division.
