Роман о предсказании и атаке на Перл-Харбор выйдет в сентябре

A story nearly 40 years in the making is connecting one Southern Tier author's family history with the attack on Pearl Harbor. Johnson City native Rosanne Groover Norris is preparing to release her first novel, The Knewing of Pearl Harbor, on September 7. The historical fiction novel follows Finn Hayes, a young Irish-American sailor from Johnson City who has an inherited gift of foresight known as "the knewing." His story takes him from Depression era Johnson City to the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. The inspiration for the novel dates back nearly four decades, when Norris interviewed her second cousin, Joseph M. Pastor, for a college paper. Pastor served as a Machinist Mate Second Class aboard the USS Sumner at Pearl Harbor. Nearly 40 years later, Norris turned that interview into the foundation for her novel. She said that making the fictional Finn Hayes a Johnson City native was also a way to honor her own Irish family and Southern Tier roots. Illustrator Eric Adolf also drew inspiration from Stargazer, one of the horses on Binghamton's Recreation Park carousel. The finished cover features the carousel horse alongside Japanese Zero aircraft. "Rosie approached me with the idea of what her novel was, and we started a conversation about what was needed for that cover," Adolf said. "I was lucky enough to be able to read it and then try and distill what was involved to something that would be meaningful and insightful to the audiences as to what was happening inside of it." Norris also says that her own experiences with loss and grief also influenced the spiritual themes that developed as she wrote the book. "There's more to this life than really meets the eye, we do have our loved ones around us," Norris said. "And we're surrounded by them, loved by them, and they walk with us on our own personal journeys." The Knewing of Pearl Harbor is set to be released September 7 through As You Wish Publishing.
