Альбом Procol Harum 1967 года стал культовым благодаря хиту, которого не было в британской версии

On Sept. 1, 1967, British rock band Procol Harum released its self-titled U.S. debut album on the Deram label. The UK version was released in December 1967 on the Regal Zonophone label. One big difference between the two is that the UK version did not include the hit "A Whiter Shade of Pale." On the U.S. version, "A Whiter Shade of Pale" was the first track, while "Conquistador" was the first track on the UK pressing. And if you're interested in further trivia about this album, a German pressing was released with the song "Homburg," which is not on either the U.S. or UK pressing. But "Homburg" became a charting single for the group. The band is considered among the best progressive or psych-rock groups of its generation. However, none of their studio albums ever reached Gold status, meaning 500,000 in sales. That being said, "A Whiter Shade of Pale" sold more than 10 million copies as a single. Procol Harum would go on to release 12 studio albums. And although the band has yet to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, "A Whiter Shade of Pale," was inducted in 2018 under the single category. Collector’s Insight by Executive Editor Don Wilkins: Procol Harum doesn't receive the credit it deserves as a pioneer in progressive rock. And some even consider the band a one-hit wonder. Yes, "A Whiter Shade of Pale" is a spectacular, mesmerizing track. But there is so much more to this band that I would encourage you to seek out albums in their discography. But if you're only going to own one, this debut or "The Best of Procol Harum" that released in 1972 would be my recommendation. From a collecting standpoint, this album is in demand, but the band's subsequent releases only mildly so. If you can find this album in very good plus (VG+) condition with the original poster inside, you're talking $35 to $45 at retail. Without the poster in the same condition — $25 to $30.
