Открытие новой световой инсталляции Flow в центре города отложено из-за погодных условий

Next week’s dedication of a new downtown light sculpture been postponed because of installation delays caused by recent storms, the city said Friday. A new date has not been announced for the dedication, which had been scheduled for Wednesday. The event was expected to include music and showcase the light sculpture’s features for the community. LEDs create 1,200 individually controllable points of light in the sculpture, artist James Lucey told The Journal Gazette this month. Flow will be suspended about 12 to 18 feet above ground along the 150-foot length of the alley. Storms have delayed the installation work and postponing the dedication will allow Lucey time to ensure the system that anchors the kinetic sculpture in place is properly installed, the city said in a news release. Additional storms have been forecast for this weekend. Flow is replacing 77 Steps in the alley between 113 and 127 W. Berry St. Work to remove 77 Steps began early this month. Originally installed in 2020, 77 Steps included more than 300 tubes containing color-changing LED strips. The light installation had an expected life span of five years and endured heavy damage from storms. A prospectus for the $100,000 project to replace 77 Steps noted that wind regularly reaches 10 to 20 miles per hour in the alley. Manufacturing delays for the Kanyemaile architectural mesh used in Flow pushed back original plans to install the sculpture in the spring.
