Сезон снежных птиц в Аризоне: американцы массово едут на юг, несмотря на падение канадского потока

While much of the conversation surrounding the upcoming snowbird season has focused on fewer Canadians heading south, new transportation data suggests Arizona’s winter migration remains very much alive — thanks to a steady stream of domestic snowbirds. A new Snowbird Migration Index from vehicle transport brokerage Ship A Car shows that Americans — and their automobiles — continue to pour into Arizona, with Greater Phoenix overwhelmingly serving as their destination. EXPERIENCE ARIZONA: 3 Arizona Mexican restaurants named best in U.S. by The New York Times According to the company’s booking and dispatch records, roughly 72% of snowbird vehicles shipped to Arizona are delivered to the Phoenix metro area, including Scottsdale, Sun City, Mesa and Surprise. Tucson captures another 15%, while the remainder heads to destinations across the state, including Yuma’s sizable winter visitor community. And Arizona’s biggest source of snowbirds might be surprising. Rather than Minnesota, Wisconsin or another snow-covered Midwestern state, Washington ranks as Arizona’s No. 1 feeder state, accounting for approximately 13% of the company’s Arizona-bound snowbird vehicles. New York and Pennsylvania follow, with Wisconsin, Minnesota, Colorado and New Jersey also generating significant traffic. The migration patterns also differ depending on where snowbirds land. Phoenix-area arrivals are led by Washington, New York and New Jersey, while Tucson draws its largest share from Pennsylvania, followed by Washington and Wisconsin. Arizona snowbirds arrive earlier than expected September is the busiest month for Arizona-bound vehicle shipments, according to Ship A Car — earlier than many might expect. Snowbirds apparently aren’t waiting for the first blizzard to start thinking about sunshine. The southbound migration is relatively spread out, however, stretching from late summer through January. That helps transportation companies absorb the influx without a dramatic capacity crunch. The bigger challenge comes when Arizona’s winter visitors collectively decide it’s time to go home. Spring return traffic is much more compressed. Ship A Car’s broader snowbird data shows northbound shipments accelerate sharply between February and April, peak in May and remain elevated into June. Nearly half of the company’s northbound snowbird shipments occur during a single 90-day period. That concentration can tighten carrier capacity and push prices higher. Snowbirds aren’t planning very far ahead Despite the predictable seasonal migration, snowbirds tend to wait surprisingly late to arrange transportation. The median customer books southbound vehicle transportation about seven days before pickup, while the return trip is booked just five days ahead. More than half of Arizona snowbirds book within a week of their desired pickup date. Ship A Car recommends allowing two to three weeks during peak periods to improve carrier availability, pricing and scheduling flexibility. For Arizona-bound customers, the middle 50% of snowbird vehicle shipments cost approximately $1,050 to $1,900, depending on the route, vehicle and amount of advance notice. The company’s data also indicates the overall snowbird transportation market is growing. Ship A Car says its seasonal volume has roughly doubled in recent years, with last season establishing a company record. For Arizona’s tourism and winter-visitor economy, the takeaway is encouraging: Canadian travel patterns may be changing, but the domestic snowbird migration remains strong — and thousands of cars are already pointed toward the desert.
