Fory 1.7.0 release also expands Swift platform support and supports incremental JSON stream decoding for top-level arrays and newline-delimited JSON. The Apache Fory community has announced the release of Fory 1.7.0, an update of the multi-language serialization framework that adds Fory JSON support for Scala 2.13 and Scala 3 and for Kotlin on Android, the JVM, and GraalVM Native Image. Apache Fory is described as a “blazingly fast” serialization framework for idiomatic domain objects, schema IDL (interface definition language), and cross-language data exchange. It draws on JIT (just-in-time) compilation and zero-copy techniques for high performance and supports 12 programming languages including Java, Python, C++, Go, Rust, and JavaScript/TypeScript. Fory IDL is a schema definition language for Apache Fory that enables type-safe cross-language serialization. Fory IDL can also describe RPC services, and the Fory compiler can generate gRPC service companions that use Fory serialization for request and response payloads. With the Fory 1.7.0 release, developers get fory-json-scala for Scala 2.13 and Scala 3. Scala applications can read and write standard JSON using case classes, constructor defaults, Option, Either, tuples, collections, maps, and value classes, according to the release notes. The module works on the JVM and GraalVM Native Image. Fory 1.7.0 also introduces the fory-json-kotlin module, which maps Kotlin models to standard JSON while preserving constructor defaults, nullability, unsigned types, value classes, and generic arguments. The module supports the JVM, Android API 26 and later, and GraalVM Native Image. Fory 1.7.0 release highlights also include the following: - Fory JSON on GraalVM Native Image has been enhanced with build-time code generation enabled by default and fine-grained generated codec caching. - Incremental JSON stream decoding for top-level arrays and newline-delimited JSON (NDJSON) allows values to be processed progressively from chunked UTF-8 input. - Swift platform support has been expanded to visionOS, watchOS, tvOS, and Linux, and now includes Swift gRPC code generation.
