An influx of new businesses open in Bend’s Old Mill District
Published 3:00 pm Tuesday, August 11, 2026
The Old Mill District added just over half a dozen new businesses to its space this year, diversifying its offerings with books, travel bags, menswear and vintage clothes.
“This is unusual,” said Beau Eastes, marketing director for the Old Mill District. “In my eight years down here, this is the most businesses that we’ve opened in such a short time period. This last year, we’ve had a lot of spaces come available, and we’ve been able to fill a lot of those holes.”
The Old Mill District decided to welcome mostly regional and local stores.
“When we’re looking at new businesses, we’re always looking for best in class, and I think all of these businesses fit that definition,” Eastes said.
Since Will Leather Goods kicked off the wave of new businesses and opened last November, visitors at the Old Mill District have increased by 4%.
“All these new businesses bring a fun, new energy to the district that we’ve seen in our visitation numbers which have been really strong, I think in large part because of this really eclectic tenant mix that we’ve been able to curate,” he continued.
Eastes said the Old Mill District recently finished groundwork on its expansion, where they will add three buildings for restaurants and retail stores to its northern end by the hot ponds and parking area. They expect to break ground for two of those buildings in the fall or winter.
Here’s a rundown of the businesses that recently opened at the Old Mill District.
Madewell
520 SW Powerhouse Drive, Suite 608
Madewell, a premium denim brand owned by apparel giant J. Crew, operates over 150 storefronts across the country and opened its fourth Oregon location and first store in Central Oregon on July 1.
REVOLVR Menswear
520 SW Powerhouse Drive, Suite 601
A local men’s clothing store, REVOLVR Menswear, opened its second location in late May, replacing the former Francesca’s, which faced company-wide bankruptcy.
Jon Davis, owner of REVOLVR Menswear, said, “The biggest reason that we went ahead and moved forward with this is there’s a local and tourist customer base that we assume that we’re not catching downtown.”
The store in the Old Mill District, which is smaller and more manageable than its first location in downtown Bend, also ensures the retailer can be among crowds during concert season and nearby events. REVOLVR also owns EVRGREEN Clothing next door to its first location.
Portland Gear
450 SW Powerhouse Drive, Suite 403
Born from Pacific Northwest roots, Portland Gear, an apparel and lifestyle brand known for its weatherproof travel bags and “P” logo, opened its fourth Oregon store and first Central Oregon location in Bend in late May.
“As we looked to expand outside of the Portland market, we wanted to find a place where the same sense of connection, pride and community existed. We found that in Bend,” said Kameesha Rose, head of people and operations at Portland Gear, in an email. “Bend also felt like a particularly natural fit because it’s such a destination. People are constantly traveling to and through Bend, and as a brand rooted in travel, adventure and the Pacific Northwest, it was important to us to have a presence here.”
Elk Vintage
520 SW Powerhouse Drive, Suite 624
Elk Vintage, a locally owned vintage boutique with clothing, home decor and accessories, opened its first brick-and-mortar in May inside the Old Mill District’s historic Little Red Shed. The historic Little Red Shed is the Old Mill District’s oldest building and used to house fire equipment. It is located on the south end next to City Home, Eastes said.
Elk Vintage co-owners Jeni Gallacher and Andria Hattenhauer said the building attracted them to the location.
“The historic features of the building and its small charm was totally our vibe,” Gallacher said. “We just always wanted a tiny little old place ready for a vintage store.”
The co-owners handpick every item from all over America.
“Bringing a vintage store to the mill with good price points and a variety of styles is unlike anything else down there,” Hattenhauer said. “We’re really excited about it and would love for more people to come in.”
Dudley’s Bookshop Cafe
655 SW Powerhouse Drive, Suite 150
Dudley’s Bookshop Cafe opened its second location in early May with a riverside patio. The locally-owned, independent bookstore and coffee shop recently started a book club called Riverside Reads that regularly meets on the back patio.
Dudley’s Bookshop Cafe, whose flagship location is in downtown Bend, worked with the Old Mill District for a few years and looked at several locations.
“Our downtown location is so successful due to the high volume of foot traffic that location sees practically year-round,” said co-owner Tom Beans in an email. “When I looked around Bend for any other areas that had similar foot traffic, the Old Mill was really the standout option.”
Stacks Dinner and Delicatessen
545 SW Powerhouse Drive, Suite 910
A traditional deli with ingredients sourced from the Pacific Northwest opened late January in the Old Mill District’s center plaza near the pedestrian bridge.
Stacks Dinner and Delicatessen guests can enjoy lunch and dinner on the patio by the river or grab and go. Its “from scratch” menu features house-cured and smoked meats, fish and vegetables. Specialties include pastrami, corned beef, beet-cured salmon lox and rotisserie chicken.
Kiln
501 SW Hill Street
In mid-May, Kiln turned a former call center into a 43,000-square-foot coworking space with rentable offices, conference rooms and event space.
“It’s really transformative, not just for the Old Mill District, but for Bend to have a product like that in the market,” Eastes said.
Kiln will host a public, complimentary grand opening from 6 to 10 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 24 with live music, local food and drinks.
