В Алабаме отменяют знак «Нет поворота направо на красный» на перекрестке в Феникс-Сити

Alabama transportation officials to remove ‘no right on red’ signs at Phenix City intersection Change follows driver complaints; new lane planned to help traffic merge PHENIX CITY, Ala. (WTVM) - The Alabama Department of Transportation will soon implement an updated traffic pattern at the intersection of US-280 and US-80 in Phenix City to improve safety. Following recent modifications, ALDOT evaluated traffic and gathered feedback from the public and local officials. In response to initial safety concerns, maintenance crews adjusted the signal on US-280 West onto US-80 East, also known as JR Allen Parkway, to a no turn on red. Right turn to return to free flow To alleviate congestion, ALDOT will return the right turn movement to a free flow condition. To accommodate the change, crews will construct a short receiving lane for the inside dual left turn lane from US-280 onto the US-80 ramp, allowing drivers to make a left turn and then merge right. Drivers react to change News Leader 9’s Dakota Morris visited the intersection and spoke with local drivers about the change. Drivers said they believe the new plan is a better solution than the “no right on red” signs. One driver said he was not sure why the signs were put there in the first place. “Well prior to it being the way it is now, it was a lot better. I never saw the traffic backed up as bad as it is now, but now it is ridiculous. On the right side the traffic is always backed up and on the left side, the way two cars are coming in, its kind of confusing,” a local driver said. Work to begin after Labor Day The contractor plans to begin paving, striping, signage installation and signal adjustments the week of September 7, following the Labor Day holiday. Drivers should pay attention to electronic message boards and follow ALDOT Southeast Region social media channels for updates on the traffic shift. ALDOT thanked the public for its feedback and asked for patience as crews work to optimize the safety and efficiency of the intersection. Travelers are reminded to slow down, avoid distractions and pay attention to people and equipment in the work zone.
