Выставка «Колокол сирен» в колледже Чаффи представляет переработанные мифы и феминистские архетипы

“A Racket of Banshees: Goddesses and Monsters Re-Imagined,” an art exhibition opening Tuesday, Sept. 8, on Chaffey College’s Rancho Cucamonga campus, will feature the work of artists reimagining mythology, feminist archetypes and speculative futures. The exhibit runs through Nov. 14 at Chaffey College’s Wignall Museum of Contemporary Art, and many of the artists whose work is featured will attend an artists’ reception to be held 2-4 p.m. Sept. 12 at the museum. The reception is free and open to the public The Association of Hysteric Curators, a group founded in Los Angeles that supports feminist artists, is presenting the exhibit, with art ranging from sculptures of golden valkyries to oil paintings of mythological figures, according to a news release from Chaffey College. “This ambitious group exhibition brings together a vibrant roster of artists working across sculpture, painting, photography, video and mixed media, offering visitors a rich and stimulating viewing experience,” Rebecca Trawick, director of the Wignall Museum, said in the news release. “We are honored to welcome such a diverse and accomplished group of artists to the Wignall Museum.” The exhibition expands on the 2023 online exhibition “Goddesses and Monsters” that was featured at the Los Angeles gallery LADIES’ ROOM. “Blending the divine and the monstrous, the exhibition explores transformation, gender equity and imagined futures. Monsters challenge the status quo, while goddesses illuminate unknown possibilities,” Trawick said in the news release. “Mythology and monster stories continue to resonate because they give shape to our fears and anxieties. By embodying complex emotions and universal struggles, they provide a framework for understanding the human experience, reflecting our deepest fears, desires and ambitions.” During the exhibition, artists Allison Stewart and Susan Arena will lead free, hands-on art workshops focused on the exhibition’s themes. The Wignall Museum is open 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Thursday and noon-4 p.m. Saturday except on campus holidays and between exhibitions. Chaffey College’s Rancho Cucamonga campus is at 5885 Haven Ave. For information about the Wignall Museum and details of workshops associated with the “A Racket of Banshees,” go to chaffey.edu/wignall.
