В возрасте-ограниченном сообществе Линкольна задержан подозреваемый в нападении, вызвавший вопросы о его легальном проживании

Stabbing in Lincoln’s Sun City community raises concerns about suspect’s residency A woman was hospitalized with minor injuries after being stabbed Monday morning in the Sun City Lincoln Hills community, an age-restricted neighborhood in Lincoln, raising questions about the residency of the 29-year-old suspect. "This is very unusual for Sun City. First of all, Lincoln is the third safest city in the state," Lincoln Mayor Richard Pearl said. "Sun City is incredibly safe, and this is an adult community, so our rates of crime are hardly a blip." Lincoln police said they responded to the community just before 8 a.m. after the woman called 911 to report the stabbing. Investigators recovered a knife at the scene and identified the suspect as 29-year-old James McKown. "We don't know if the incident was targeted, but this was a random incident," Lincoln Police Capt. Zach Eaton said. "We believe the suspect and the victim did not know each other. We don't believe that they've ever met each other." McKown's presence in the age-restricted community has raised questions, as Pearl tells KCRA 3, the Sun City Lincoln Hills is designed for residents aged 55 and older. The mayor explained that McKown was living with a relative. "I think people understand that this is a very, very unusual and unique situation," Pearl said. "It can happen anywhere at any time. As I said, we just don't have this up here. This is an age-restricted community, and this was someone who was not able to be here by age; he was living with a relative." California law allows certain individuals under 55 to live in age-restricted housing communities under specific eligibility provisions. However, the executive director of the Sun City Lincoln Hills Community Association declined to disclose under which provision McKown was living there, citing privacy concerns and the ongoing criminal investigation. Eaton noted that violent crime is rare in the community. "The types of crime that we see in Sun City Lincoln Hills is typically scam-related or theft-related type stuff," Eaton said. "Scams related to online financials or even home improvement scams we've seen happen in that neighborhood, but nothing to the effect of violent crime in that neighborhood, so obviously this is something that's a significant outlier for us." Jail records show McKown was booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and causing harm to an elder or dependent adult. Police confirmed that McKown was on probation at the time of the stabbing but did not disclose the reason. He faced a judge for an arraignment on Wednesday, and is due back in court on Sept. 1. He is being held without bail. See more coverage of top California stories here | Download our app | Subscribe to our morning newsletter | Find us on YouTube here and subscribe to our channel.
