Juno Beach remembers beloved pizza maker Willie Uribe Willie Uribe, a beloved pizza maker who built a loyal following at his New York-style pizza shop inside a Shell gas station in Juno Beach, died last week at the age of 64 after facing several health issues. Tucked inside the gas station, Willie’s Pizza became a destination for people across the Palm Beaches and Treasure Coast, but for those who knew Uribe, the pizza was only part of the reason they kept coming back. “He was definitely rough around the edges. New York-style guy. Awesome, dude. Full of energy. Tough. Tough as nails,” said Robert Colon, who worked at Willie’s Pizza. Uribe’s journey in the pizza business began decades ago in Manhattan, where he worked before eventually relocating to South Florida. He found his niche in the small gas station spot, letting his pizza speak for itself. “He was always just working hard. And his mantra was, if you're going to make pizza, make it with love, make people happy. He really enjoyed people," said Justin Palmer, a friend of Uribe and the new owner of Willie’s Pizza. About three years ago, Barstool Sports’ Dave Portnoy stopped by the shop, reviewed the pizza, and brought even more attention to the business. For those who worked with Uribe, his impact extended far beyond the pizzas he sold. His team emphasized the connections he made with the community, whether with young or old customers, some of whom were inspired to work and make pizzas themselves. Before his death, Uribe spent weeks teaching his team his exact recipes and methods to ensure his legacy would continue. “I'm going to miss him a lot. I mean, it was a lot of fun to be around him. He's just a funny guy. And it's it was, it was a tough day here, hearing that he had passed, but we're, we're keeping the legacy alive," said Joshua Huber, who works at Willie’s Pizza. Willie’s Pizza remains open seven days a week at the corner of Ocean Walk and U.S. 1 inside the Shell gas station.
