Ашиш Нехра отверг слухи о назначении главным тренером сборной Индии

Gujarat Titans (GT) head coach and former India fast bowler Ashish Nehra has addressed recent speculation regarding his potential interest in becoming the head coach of the Indian men’s cricket team. Speaking at the Cricket Association of Bengal’s (CAB) annual awards event, Nehra clarified that while coaching the national side would be a great privilege, he holds no planned ambition for the role and remains focused on his current commitments. With current head coach Gautam Gambhir facing ongoing media scrutiny, several names have been discussed by cricket experts as potential long-term candidates, including VVS Laxman and Nehra. However, Nehra distanced himself from long-term career planning, emphasizing that he prefers to take things as they come. He expressed satisfaction with his current position at GT, highlighting that coaching success is a collective team effort rather than an individual accomplishment, despite the tendency in Indian cricket to credit or blame coaches and captains directly. When asked what factors he would weigh if officially approached for the national coaching job, Nehra pointed to the intense demands of international cricket, specifically the grueling travel schedule. He noted that international head coaches are often required to be on the road for eight to nine months a year, making long tenures rare. Using his signature humor, Nehra remarked that he would first need approval from his wife before taking on such an extensive commitment. “First things first, I’ll have to check with the High Commission, which is my wife. Otherwise I’ll get the divorce,” he joked, underscoring the personal toll that near-constant travel can take on family life. He added that few coaches manage to stay in an international role for more than three or four years due to these relentless pressures. Nehra’s coaching stock has risen sharply since taking charge of Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He led the franchise to an IPL championship in their inaugural 2022 season and subsequently guided them to runner-up finishes in two of the following seasons. Despite his success in the IPL’s shorter two-month window, Nehra reiterated that transitioning to full-time international coaching involves significantly different personal and professional trade-offs.
