20-летняя кубинка показала скромный дом, купленный на заработанные в TikTok деньги

A young Cuban woman, only 20 years old, has become a TikTok sensation by proudly showcasing the modest home she acquired on the island. Her video defies critics who mocked her living conditions. Ana Leyla (@ayla41618) shared the video on TikTok in late August, and it quickly garnered over 67,700 views, 6,427 likes, and 434 comments. In the minute-and-27-second clip, Ana Leyla gives a tour of her sparsely furnished house and candidly acknowledges her situation: "I know my house isn't pretty, but I'm not offended by that. You don't know the joy I felt when I bought my own space where my privacy would be respected, where my family could be at peace, where my child could be happy." Ana Leyla, a mother of a young boy and in a relationship, explains that her home is practically devoid of furniture: "I don't have anything, just a few little things. But as you know, earning money here in Cuba is quite challenging." To afford her home, Ana Leyla works as a digital content creator: "I am working on social media, and little by little, I've managed to get a few things. I'm not in a hurry. I know patience is key, especially since I am young." Her most powerful message directly addresses the harsh realities faced by thousands of Cubans: "In the society we live in, being poor is seen as a flaw. Living amidst scarcity in a country where every day is a struggle, facing one problem after another, is tough. But I'm grateful and continue fighting day by day." Ana Leyla is no stranger to sparking discussions online. In July, she responded to accusations of engaging in "jineterismo" to buy her house. She appeared in a video sweeping in front of her unfinished block home, emphasizing her hard work and perseverance; that clip surpassed 17,500 views. The phenomenon surrounding Ana Leyla is not unique. In August, another Cuban TikToker, known as "Milenita," was celebrated for showcasing the wooden house she has lived in since birth, amassing over 443,000 views. In May, TikToker Diego García del Prado shared his story of purchasing his first home in Cuba for $2,500, thanks to his digital earnings. Given this landscape, a growing number of young Cubans are turning to TikTok as a source of income in foreign currency, using it to access modest properties and turning these everyday achievements into content that both inspires admiration and raises questions. Ana Leyla concluded her video with a statement summarizing her stance on criticism: "There are many homes like this one, and even worse, here where I live, and I feel more than grateful."
