Видео с отеля в Варадеро и сотнями американских машин разжигает споры о неравенстве в Кубе

A recent video filmed in Varadero has stirred heated discussions online, as it captures a hotel teeming with Cubans and a parking lot packed with over 200 private vehicles. The video, shared by Lucas Corrales, raises questions about who can currently afford vacations, hotel stays, and cars in Cuba. Corrales uploaded the footage to Facebook, claiming the cars were imported from the United States. "There are over two hundred private cars parked here. Two hundred cars, folks, all with private plates, meaning they came from the United States," he comments while showing the scene. He later confirmed in the comments that the visuals were indeed from Varadero. The video also provides a glimpse into the number of guests at the hotel, with Corrales describing long lines for meals and a variety of offerings that starkly contrast with the shortages most Cubans face. "The lines for food are long... There's pork, beef, fish. So many options," he narrates. The Cuban Government's Push for Domestic Tourism This footage emerges during a summer where the Cuban government is intensifying efforts to attract local tourists amid a continued decline in international visitors. For the 2026 summer season, the Ministry of Tourism has opened 22 facilities in Varadero for the domestic market, with room prices starting at $156.50 per night and day passes from $80. A Look at Cuba's Growing Economic Divide Following the widespread reactions to his first video, Corrales released a second clip focusing specifically on the parking lot, showcasing the vehicles with greater detail. "As promised, friends, these cars you see here came from the United States, belonging to hotel guests, the privileged class in Cuba. Look at this. There were many more yesterday," he stated while walking among the rows of cars. He emphasized that nearly all vehicles had private plates, pointing out some of the models he encountered, "All with private plates. Two or three are for tours. Everything is private. Look at how many private cars there are. Latest models. Kia, Hyundai, and so on. This is incredible." The presence of numerous imported vehicles on Cuban streets has become increasingly noticeable in recent years. Since January 2025, new regulations have eased the purchase of vehicles by individuals through foreign currency payments. By 2024, vehicle exports from the United States to Cuba had reached significant numbers. Social Media Reacts to Varadero's Scene The scenes from Varadero have reignited divided opinions online. Some users defended families able to afford such expenses, highlighting the importance of remittances and the hard work of Cuban expatriates. "They deserve it; they work hard in the U.S. to support their families and help those left behind in Cuba," one person commented. Conversely, others cautioned that a crowded parking lot and hotel do not represent the economic realities for most Cubans. "A handful of people among over 11 million Cubans on the island... let's be realistic and analyze what Cuba is today," responded another user. There were also comments on the irony of numerous American-sourced vehicles on the island, while the Cuban government continues to blame its economic crisis on U.S. sanctions. "That's how communism works in Cuba with the help of relatives abroad," one user mocked. The debate coincides with a growing acknowledgment of the widening economic disparities within Cuban society. Recently, a professor from Las Tunas acknowledged that economic reforms in Cuba are creating class distinctions.
