Карл Нордгрэн: творческий потенциал 98% американцев может преодолеть политические разногласия

Carl Nordgren argues that America’s shared creative potential could help bridge political and cultural divisions in his new book With political and cultural divisions continuing to dominate public debate in the United States, author and educator Carl Nordgren believes there is one area where Americans have more in common than they might realise — creativity. Nordgren, who has spent decades working in entrepreneurship and education, argues that people’s natural ability to be creative could provide a starting point for bringing communities together. He points to research using NASA’s creativity assessment tool and grading scale, which he says found that 98% of people assessed demonstrated a level of creative potential. “That common ground is our natural-born creative genius that 98% of us share,” Nordgren said. His ideas form the basis of his new book, Common Ground for US: Warning! This Book Makes Folks Optimistic, published by Torchflame Books. The book explores how people might prepare for an uncertain future by making greater use of their creative abilities. Nordgren draws on his experience as an entrepreneur and educator, having worked with students, businesspeople, educators, scientists and leaders over the course of his career. Rather than attempting to predict precisely what the future will look like, Nordgren argues that people should develop the skills and attitudes necessary to respond creatively to whatever challenges emerge. Among his proposals is the concept of “Common Wealth”, which he describes as an approach to using resources more effectively for the benefit of citizens. Nordgren also turns his attention to politics, arguing that the language commonly used by politicians has become divisive and ineffective. He describes much political terminology as “weaponized” and “useless”, and proposes alternative language and behaviours which he believes could encourage greater cooperation between political and community leaders. The book is aimed at readers who are concerned about America’s current direction but who remain optimistic about the possibility of change. Nordgren believes creativity should not be viewed simply as an attribute belonging to artists, writers or other traditionally creative professions, but as a fundamental human ability which can be applied to everyday problems. “Not only does common ground exist, but the nature of it is us at our very best,” he said. “We live and work together through creative expressions of our core human qualities.” Nordgren’s argument is that developing those abilities could help create what he describes as a grassroots renaissance — one based not on political agreement, but on people’s shared capacity to imagine, experiment and find new solutions.
